YER I HAD THE CRAP AND SPUNK ONE BUT NEVER IN THE FACE...AS FAR AS THAT HOOK GOES.:(

But i do still love them, its the start of summer for me, the time to use big baits, the time to take family out and lad a couple and make a big deal out of them catching one like you never ever get 4 in one go :)

I decided against going down the boat today with the weather, going Monday now instead via Storra.

met up with Kevin and his new Ocqueteau 645 ... lol raring to get out and test but not today unfortunately (nice to meet up Kevin)

Tony, thats a great rod the new ugly stik, feels better than my 20lbd one.
loads of rings good gentle bend and a great hold. Tied a weight on and wet it off the back of slinky just to feel the action (with a TLD15), lol roll on flat seas :) :)

Keith, just what were you doing that close to the hind quarters of a mackerel ? :)

its great to see us boat anglers getting excited again - the winter has been a long one. Looked at some lovely rods yesterday and nearly bought one it was either a new suveron pro or penn waveblaster.

Even longer for me Steve as you lot start sooner in the year, be mid to end of April for me if not later.

Think i wet aline in the mariner on Monday :)

It will soon be here, dont seem 5 mins since it was xmas.

JASON, GERRY'S OF MORECAMBE HAVE A WHAT LOOKS LIKE A GREAT DEAL ON THE PENN WAVEBLASTER 6-12lb LONG TIP/SHORT BUTT AT THE MOMENT.WAS LOOKING AT IT MYSELF.

Richy, how about getting in the lock on the big tides and do some mussel picking, couldn't beleive how big some of them were when we seen them last year

Yer i know they some size, picked a few of the bigger ones last year :)

Think they would mind me putting some pots in the mariner under my boat lol :)

6 weeks and counting :)

Nice to meet you too Norman.
I “de-winterised” the engine; refitting the impeller was a bit of a bugger but it’s all back together now and with no spare bits left over. She fired up first time and we had a run round the marina. They’re cracking boats and unexpectedly, much easier to manoeuvre than the little Seahog I had with an outboard which was a relief.

Roll on the first calm seas of spring.

Or wait until April when the lock will be emptied for it’s annual maintenance, there’ll be a season’s supply of bait ready for the freezer.

Aye Kev very manoeverable, however all in forward motion lol backwards has no steering (as with an outboard/outdrive there is prop direction, not with shaft drive) :)

Only weeks away now from a run out ..... I`m sure .......

Keeping with the same thread (coz I think its a cracker) .... :)
been looking through Youtube just for the fun of it and came across this .....
Nice video but thought I ought to point it in the direction of "first mate Steve" in that there are some valuable clips on how to Gaff :) :) :)

one odd thing in the video don't ring quite true in that when asked how heavy do you think it is there are several "about 9 or 10lbds" comments ..... haha tell me the last time anyone on a boat caught a fish "about" 10 lbds the didn`t weigh it to find out ...... theres no "abouts" aboard slinky with a fish over 7lbs :) :) :)

Strange that Norman, i ahve been trawling over some catch reports on the site dating back to 2007 thats how bored and eager i am )

Some crackers both high and lows, just finished reading the one when your caught the chair around your prop etc, the crab pot cod, the big cod last drop of the day for the comp, the great day on your fav wreck, my jsut shy of 20lb cod, my 9 fish in 9 drifts, my dog dieing after a trip, the day i snagged a rope and all the trips from the boats of any interest :)

just got the gear I'm prepared to sell out...will take pics and post an advert tomorrow ;)

what the FPO doesn't realise is that if I make enough dough I'm buying another shore rod as well as the new boat rod :D
