New Tackle Manufacturer.

greys rods

greys rods

iwas talking to the head rod builder at greys two years ago he said all greys sea rods have been inported from the far east starting with the greyflex -apollo onwards

well i got the greys Nitra.had it 2 1/2 yrs now, before that had the Mk1 Apollo, and would`nt hesitate to buy another greys rod.
You speak as you find i`m afraid

if you look at some daiwa rods
it says
built in great britain
but thre blanks are made else where
i know cos ive got 2

...can I just remind you all, while you're all describing very creditable reviews and opinions on GREYS rods - the aforementioned company - SONIK - are in no way associated with Hardy Greys of Alnwick.

Talk of rods snapping etc have nothing to do with SONIK.

While some rods are MANUFACTURED in the far east, please don't be mislead that a major tackle company travels over there, walks into a factory and chooses a mass order of rods OFF THE SHELF. These rods are built with the highest quality materials, and to the specifications that such a manufacturer has designed - after a lot of R and D.

all very true, and the proof of the pudding as they say is in the eating

but lets face it, ex Greys staff launch a new brand... its going to come from China, its more than likely going to come from the same factory as the greys stuff does. Froma business point of view, nobody is going to start up a new company without leaning very very heavily on the contacts and experience they have taken from their previous one, and quality in the last 2 or 3 years has definately gone downhill in Greys offerings which in my own personal experience is very very poor on the quality front, to the point now where I haven't even bothered taking the last one that snapped back - it would of been the 4th replacement for the same rod - I figure whats the point

I do buy bits and pieces from china, I've been offered rods from the factory that builds the greys rods, yes they'd be unbranded, but they'd be peanuts to buy, downside was the 500 rod minimum order for me!

It would be tremendous to discover they are going to be the dogs danglies and built like a brick out house, but until they've sold enough and they have been proven, I ain't going to be convinced that they are going to be superior. I hope to be proved wrong

There's also an old saying "you pay for what you get". Are the top builders ((IMO) century, conoflex, zziplex ) still manufactured in the UK ?. You pay a lot of money for these rods as you used to for Greys, who have got cheaper since they moved manufacture, question is ; is it due to quality or cheaper manufacturing ?.
As the Anyfish Anywhere brand seem to have done, lets hope Sonic give us another headache when choosing equipment
ps I don't use Greys rods but often fish with a lad who does & in my opinion they do look & perform well.

ABU have reels made in sweden and in taiwan and china.
example: amb.7000c4 LD from sweden price: 1300 dkk
amb.7000c4 LD from taiwan price: 900 dkk

but are they the same? or they could be both made in china and boxed in "made in sweden" boxes. paranoia sets in
