new to multiplier

hello going to buy a multiplier tommorrow but dont no if i have ther right sort of rod will mutiplier fit to any rod or will i have to buy a new rod for it to fit which i wont to try and avoid, the rod i have now is a daiwa surf 1207, 3 piece would this be sutable for a multiplier or not

when i first got a multiplier i just used my F/S rod. it works fine only difference between a multi rod and a F/S rod is that there are more rings on a multi rod and there smaller (i think). when you get use to your multiplier and want to invest in a new rod i would get a multi rod then but im sure your rod will be fine for now with a multipler on instead of a F/S.

As shaun said, F/S rod, bigger rings, not its not less but rather further way from the reel seat so the rings can come off the F/S in a wide arch.

Using a multiplier on a F/S Rod is perfectly fine.. will make little or no difference to your cast... shouldn't do the other way round though.

Have you got your eye on a certain multi or going to pick on on tackle shops advice?

one of my mates from school his dad owns billys fishing shop in shields and i was alking to him about it and he was talking about slosh for £85 but i dont no what model until i speak to him tomorrow

Hi Curtis, what exactly do you want to buy a multiplier for, £85:00 is a lot of money to be shelling out for something you don't really need right now. You won't find that much difference from your fixed spool regarding distance so unless it is something you really need I would wait a while mate. If your fixed spool reel is broken then fair enough but I don't see any point in buying a multiplier just so you have one.

If I was you I would save your money for a while and get yourself a deal on a good second hand rod and reel together. Make sure that someone goes with you so you can get something that suits you and if you can try one before you buy it. I used a fixed spool reel for a long time when I first started fishing, even after I bought my first multiplier and rod I still used the fixed spool set up too.

after reading jims comment. in the journal i think it was this week i spotted a advert for a good rod and good mulitiplier for less than £100 i think it was a greys rod and abu or penn multi, may of even been in the green advert paper but anyways, just thought id mention it as there are some quite good deals around for second hand rods and reels if you look. i look just cant afford lol!

Have a look for a decent second hand one for 30-45 quid, half price and the older ones normally get better with age lol

you have made me have second thorts about it i think i will hang on for a bit until mebeys the summer or next winter when i can get a decent multi rod and reel so many thanks curtis

Like the lads have said Curtis I would hold back and save your pennies and look out for some good deals on second hand stuff - all my shore reels bar one have been seconds and one of my fave rods was a second from Billys

I'm actually going "back" to fixed spool for some aspects of my fishing - going to load up my Shimano Aerlex GT8000 with braid and when I get hold of an SK3 I'll be sorted for the scratching sessions

as most people have said mate, go for second hand if possible

and also a slosh 30 is a great reel, a have 1 and love it but its quite a big reel and you could have probs if you have small hands or are younger(as u mentioned school before) you could go for a slosh20 which is exactly the same just a bit smaller

the slosh's are quite often for sale on here aswell for around £40 so keep an eye out

I think you've made the right decision Curtis, spend the time looking around and see what prices different rods and reels are going for. Have a look around your friends and see what they are using and see if they will let you have a go, you could get lots of different reccomendations for rods and reels but it all depends what suits you. No good spending a lot of money on a rod if it doesn't do the job you want it to. If your not in a hurry to buy something, don't make the mistake of buying something just because it's cheap, it could cost you a lot more in the long run.
