I used to coarse fish many moons ago but this summer i have decided to try my hand a sea fishing.

It is going quite well i feel, the first week alone i bagged;
1lb 8oz plaice on muscle
around 20 coalfish
a few launce
and a weird silvery fish which readily lost its scales, dont know whether it was a herring or smelt

all went back to fight another day.

I am having trouble catching anything of size, i usually float fish rag or a bit of mackerel. I also do a bit of spinning with lures of various sizes, hokkais and daylights. Again agin coalfish after coalfish and the odd launce. any tips ?

i usually fish roker pier, trow rocks, the groin and marsden. was gonna try shields pier but i herd it was closed to anglers although every day i see alot of people trekking off the pier with bags of mackerel.

Hi Greendog and welcome to NESA. There are a lot of people on NESA from your area, keep your eyes open and I am sure one or two will invite you to meet up with them when they are fishing, that is one of the best ways to learn about rigs, hook sizes and the many other things you will need to know. Especially as the winter season will be on us soon, most of the fishing then is ledgering.

Jim.

Hello mate.
I love sea fishing. Just got into the old fly fishing game but to be honest i prefer the sea. Think its the fact everythings wild.
Like Jim says the more you go the more you pick up.
I also like fishing off boats and am hopefully out next Thurs on the 3rd from Hartlepool.

Welcome aboard mate ,always nice to have someone new on who contributes .

I couldn't agree more with Jim (willywetegg) ,this site has a great reputation for information wether it be openly shared online or by private message or even a meet up , I have every confidence you'll fine the answers you need .

Good luck ,Steve.

alright Greendog hope you find all the info you req and remember the search option :)

There's a search option?

The only time I've used the search option is to calculate the number of mackerel Richy has in his in freezer for the winter fishing he gave up on 19 years ago.
