Hello all

Joined some 3 weeks backand thought it about time I sent my first post in. I\'ve been on this site virtually every day since joining and I\'ve still got a lot of reading to do!! What a site! The information, catch reports and crack are second to none. Loved your \"Trots\" Sless. Proper NE humour.

Work has kept me down in The Midlands now for 30 years, having grown up in Sunderland where I learnt the ropes on the Durham coal beaches. So, it\'s been great to catch up with things on this site and a big thank you to all concerned.

With a change in career pending, I\'m now hoping to spend more of the future winters back in the NE starting next week! I\'ve booked a week in Whitby, an area I\'ve never fished before. I\'ve done a little bit of research but would greatly appreciate any pointers as to where best to fish. Fancy the rock marks but some of them look a bit hairy!! Please help!

Cheers all-Derek

Hi again Derek welcome to NESA mate. Only done a wee bit of fising down that way but there are loads of marks whetyer you want beach rock or pier
If you have a look at MikeR\'s site http://photorecce.co.uk you will get loads of info on there.
No doubt he and a few others from down there will give you more info when they read this.

Jim.

Hi Derek - welcome to NESA......\"3 WEEKS\" ??......it\'s about time you made your 1st post, then....lol.

Thanks for the kind comments about the site and I hope you\'ll be a regular contributor.

As Jim has said, MikeR is the man to give you info on Whitby marks, along with Ollie. (Take a look at Ollies\' post \"whitby way\" in the catch reports area). I\'m sure they (and others from that area) will be only too glad to point you in the right direction when they see your post.

Many thanks for the warm welcome lads, what a friendly bunch.

Had a look at MikeR\'s site Jim and that is quite a remarkable resource with clearly a lot of hard work put in by Mike. It will certainly be a great help for next week and should save me some time with locating marks. I\'ve got some more reading to do now!

I\'ve emailed David Storey who lives just down the road from me!

Thanks again lads

Cheers Derek

hi derek ,welcome to nesa m8,whitby mmm ,ok if you fancy the pier ,fish it on a night tide ,as there are two decks ,everyone fishes from the top deck as in rough seas the lower is unfishable also lousy for casting from ,if the gate is closed climb over but at your own risk ,had to say that for obvious reasons, fishing can be hectic sometimes and cod are caught all along its length ,cocktail baits work very well .couple of tackle shops in whitby are ok and can give you even more info .
check out saltwick and sandsend on mikes web page
and if you need any other help giv us a holar :D

Thanks very much for that Ollie, I\'ll certainly be giving the pier a go at some point.

I\'ll also be giving some of the rock marks a try that are on Mike\'s site. Runswick Bay sounds like a good spot in rough weather, you ever fished it Ollie? I also saw a spot on the road map called Kettleness but haven\'t heard anyone mention it on this site. Is Kettleness fishable and if so, what\'s it like?

Thanks again

Derek

Thanks for the comments! As Ollie will tell you Kettleness is fishable but you will have to be either a mountain goat to get down the cliffside or as fit a a butchers dog to walk round from Runswick. Some lovely looking gullies there though!

if its well rough get down to runswick a favorite spot of mine ,fish round the cliffs but watch yoursen on those rocks or follow the beach ,to the yacht club you can try there or further round going towards kettleness ,if your fishing the rock marks like i do use 30lb +line ,rotten bottoms ,kettleness is for me a superb place but very high tackle losses as the ground is real rough .like mike says its a hike but can be rewarding ,
staithes is another gold mine
try the nab on the right in front of the right hand jetty at low water ,or fish the other side cowbar gulley ,if youre feeling likea hike carry past the gulley till you come to the boiler hole at boulby ,but please for goodness sake keep your eye on the tide and tell folk where you are going as i had to rescue an angler 3 year ago from runswick who had fallen and was badly injured.
just be safe derek ;)

Great stuff! Thanks especially to Ollie and Mike. I\'ll try and let you know how I get on if the local library has internet access! If not I\'ll report back week Saturday and I promise I\'ll be careful. Got no choice after witnessing a father and son swept off Hendon Docks in the 70\'s despite a warning! That memory stays with me!

If your about next week, give me a call on 07812 214244 and we could perhaps meet up.

Thanks again

Regards Derek

Funny?!! It was absolutely hilarious. My son has still not stopped p***ing himself! Our sort of humour. We\'ve been there many a time, normally on the banks of the R.Severn with open pastures behind us and nowhere private to dump!

Keep it up Sless and thanks for the warm welcome.

Derek
