Hi all, fished the bay again in the hope of catching some meore whiting for the pan, started at 10:00pm with the 2 rods fishing different range's and once again another very slow start with very little action on either rod.
after 12 bells it turned to mayhem, was busy realing in the bigger rod when my other lighter rod decided to go mental, as i struck i thort i was snagged (im on a beach i no ) but this snag was moving and after a few short moments i was greeted by a dogfish.....note that not any of these are caught around here and this is my second from the bay, anyways after that calm resumed and finished the session with 3 flats 1 whiting and a doggie.
all fish were took on macky cubes and were all returned safley.

still no fish of any size (minus the doggie) but thas always next time:D

tight lines and stay safe!

have a shot off the rocks if your after any decent fish ive had cod from church point but have never had anything off the beach bar small whiteys

Sounds like a good sesh, ive just got back from blyth beach, hit the tide the wrong way and blanked, used the peeler n al so its not the magical bait people exressed so much passion with. Cheers for the heads up. Hadda meet up for a few chucks one day David.Northeast1970.

No mate, crab isn't a "magical" bait, you've just got to know where & when to use it and be aware of what you're trying to catch with it. This time of year it's two main uses are targeting summer cod out of the kelp (especially up the coast), where to be honest it's not worth going unless you've got some! The other main use is up the rivers like the Tyne & Wear where you're targeting flounders & eels. Of course you'll also want some if you're travelling, in the search for smoothies and the like.

Blyth beach has never been a place where I'd expect to use much crab (although it does sometimes produce in the winter when the sea's away). In the winter though, probably 95% of what I chuck at the sea is lugworm. In the summer though, rag worm would be my number one choice - I wouldn't go down there without it. It'll get you dabs & flounders, as well as a chance at the schoolie bass that can turn up when conditions are right. It'd also be my number one choice for targeting plaice off the pier, when I might also choose to tip off with a few crab nippers or legs or a bit of mackerel.

Gary :)
