Just signed up! just thought id let you know how we got on. We know its a bit early but we were desperate to wet a line. I ended up with three undersize Dab and a tommy cod. Me mate (who recommended to this site) had a couple of coalie. The sport and crack was excellent tho! Bite after bite just nothing of any size. Excellent first session however frustrating. looking forward to the coming months. We fished using mackerel and lug.

Anyone know where I can bash some whiting?

It's abit late in the year for whiting but am sure the Wear or the Tyne will hold a few after dark, mackerel and size 1/0-3/0 hooks on a 2 hook flapper will do the trick.

If your still interested next year then try Hendon prom from Oct, Roker pier or the rat house, these marks produce some good sized whiting and in good numbers year in year out. After dark will always be your best chance and mackerel is the killer bait.

I fished the walkway a few weeks back and had a few whiting around the 1lb mark but this mark is best fished on a small tide's i think because of the tidal pull.
