i,ve just heard from mate that somebody was hurt on saturday or sunday night ,hit by a lead weight at the heaugh h/pool by another fellow angler who was not using a shock lead.... has anybody else got any information or is it possible its just chinese whispers

Right or wrong i never have and never will use a shock leader in the winter, i use 30lb straight through.

I hate pulling weed from the small knot
I hate tieing them on
I hate thinking about all that extra line floating around when you snag up
I have seen more near misses with shock leader than with out i.e the lead not snapping off and comming flying back towards the angler like a wrecking ball swing.

Am sure many will agree and disagree but that is my opinion of it and to be honest does not count for owt as i dont shore fish at all with leads over 3oz anyway as i dotn beach caster fish.

aye I use 30lb straight through. at most I do is a hard lob and never had a snap off yet, but iv had loads when I use a shockleader..... thats enough evidence for me to make my mind up. dont care what people say

shock leader is not the only problem i had my rod rest hit at Hendon a few weeks back because the knot came out of the american snap the angler had tied on didnt half give me a shock if some of them were just more aware of other anglers around them it would help

nowt worse than tying leader on every time ya snap off or stuck on a freezing night ,ive gone heavier line straight through which has resulted in less line snapping and less rig loss with only snood loss or maybe just hook or lead :)

im toying of going this route also, might lose a bit distance on casting , but can enjoy more fishing time , not retying shock knots etc as you say .

i changed to heavier line all the way through 2 year ago and since i did I very rarely have snap offs as it is usually the shock leader knot that catches the ring that causes the line to snap
and I always shout heads to let people know when i'm casting then shout coming over just before i cast it does not take long to do this and it makes casting a lot safer unlike some people who are virtually casting as they shout heads

i think its chinese whispers or bull, cos i fished the heugh all saturday night.and no mention of this, anyone snapping off shouldnt be fishing next to folk i dont snap off i use 30 straight through,:)

well as you say every one has different opinion me personally i would never cast a 6oz lead without a shock leader if you got 6or7 turns on left your real as your casting it shouldn't crack off if it did it would be out in front of ya were no one would get hurt i cast otg what cast do you do with 30lb straight through

I use 30 straight through aswell, never had a snap off yet, not worried about it either as I always fish where no one is around, lol I'm unsociable.
