no shock lead

where distance is req'd then I'll use a small reel with 15lb main and 65lb shock. Owt else I've been using 30lb straight thru. I usually use a 5oz lead. When I first used 30lb straight thru I was being very gentle with the cast, but you can put quite a bit of power into it! Obviously I'm not saying full pendulum lol
P.S, a penn 525 will hold more than enough 30lb line to fish with.

I switched to 60lb braid straight through and rotten bottoms. Weird thing is since I switched I never seem to get snagged ;-) Probably casting further.

I use my 525's filled with 20lb, 60lb leader attached with the bimini twist knot. I use this for piers/mixed ground.

For the real heavy stuff, I've got my Slosh with 30lb on it, and depending where I am (some heavy marks can need a good chuck) I attached a leader to it as well.

For all those who haven't tried it, take time on the bimini twist, it beats every other leader knot hands down.

When greater distance is needed on clean ground venues, i use 15lb with a 60lb shockleader. I can tie a bimini but for simplicity when on the beach i use an albright.

For mixed/heavy ground i use 30lb straight through.
