noob setting a rod up

If your using a fixed spool reel make sure that you put the line underneath the bail arm or it wont work once you have done that thread the line through the eyes of the rod
If you already have rigs ie from the shop or home made just start simple tine you line to the swivel at the top of the rig a weight on the end and a few worms on the hook(s) thats you ready to fish.
Be very carefull on the piers as theyre slippy in the wet always let other pier users that your about to make a cast by shouting heads down or coming over !!!
You dont want to hit someone with a lead travelling 100mph

If your just starting out use a shockleader of 80lb and a mainline of 20 should do you fine from piers. Plenty of videos on YouTube of how to tie knots to connect both. You don't want your lead and rig snapping off and heading towards the sea, without you being attached. Nor do you want to give your mate a sore head curtesy of 6oz of lead.!
