As the title suggests, where are we most likely to get bass this time of year? Bait fishing for now. Is it worth targeting them or is it more pot luck? Tactics baits location and tides? Would like to broaden my knowledge.

u can get them in many places . conditions have to be right tho. there is no specific mark where they will be there . u might well be surprised the mark u frequent can probably produce bass or have already produced bass. :)

as rod says, decent bass marks are not usually put on open forum mate, you may get to know some by PM though;)

I have just come on here to ask the same question you beat me to it ha.

I was thinking of going out this afternoon for a little bit of practice as i want to start learning lure fishing with spinners poppers surface lures etc but don't know jack about it.

Will there been bass or anything about that will take poppers at the min.

Well Dowly its like the lads say no one will tell you their marks where they catch the ellusive bass there are quite a few marks but its best to get in with someonewho knows the spots I will tell you one spot but you have to travel to get to it and that is Cambois beach beside the hot water pipes there it is always giving up bass there . At the moment its a bit cold for bass along the coast okay and i know another 4 good spots but will not give them up ok :red::red::red:

That hot water pipe at Cambois has been gone since Blyth power station closed! But yip, back in the day it was a great location for Bass!! I've caught Bass at lynmouth beach in the last couple of years!

You likely to catch more bass than cod from most marks that you would catch cod from now.
Bait fish in the winter, then spin and lure fish in the spring and summer.
Fish light and mobile walking the surf line on the beach also expect mackerel
taking your lures.

I fish the west coast/scottish beaches in the summer using light bass rod and small abu no 1 ultramags,it's the best form of sea fishing you can get.

I got a good one off steetly and it pulled my rod right down and butt landed in my crown jewels. The bass was foul hooked in the back.I was fishing behind the surf when the pier was open.

The gullies just north of Craster harbour and the cliffs behind Dunstanburgh castle used to be good for bass.

My favourite method was a 2oz barrel weight with a 3 foot leader, a strong 3/0 hook with a jelly worm.

Cast out and let the rig sink until you feel it bump the bottom and start working it back. You lose a bit of gear doing it like this but, as much fun as surface/near surface lure fishing is, deep fishing a jelly worm and bouncing it over the top of a kelp bed is a great way of taking fish. I often caught bass up there but, more often than not, it's pollack. Beggars can't be choosers though...

:)

Either way, on light gear when you get a hit your heart does its best to jump right out of your chest :)

Cambois beach was always good for bass as well - my biggest from there was just shy of 5lb (many years ago now) and I've caught loads in the 2 - 3lb range on baits cast a long way out and slowly retrieved back in through the breakers. I've often thought the rocks at Cullercoats and the cliffs at Tynemouth look very likely spots for bass and one of these days I'll try them.

cant agree more, but the conditions dont need to be right after i learnt last night at my local mark.. not even a flicker of waves or swell and they were still there. oh and they were taking ragworm :)
