Lucky booger :) thats one thing i really wish i could do with my boat, tow it upto Scotland and that, skate fishing, pollack fishing close in and tope fishing...would open up so mnay more types of fishing when the NE coast goes dead

I'm just starting become more confident, with the whole towing game.

It's took me a few trips but I've started to get the knack of launching and recovery. Mind you you I've had a few stressful recoveries.

I'm thinking of taking the boat to Ardwell and Luce Bay today, with a couple of paracetamol for this wine induced pain in my head. :D:D

As i said Lucky booger, luce bay should be teaming with Tope and the rock features will be pollack mad :) i have looked myself at buying a small towing boat as mine is way to big to tow around.

If you have a good anchor and long long rope tope fishing and more so skate fishing up Scotland would put that smile on your face and make getting the boat onto the trailor at the end of the day that bit easier with a smile.

Have you ever tried the ramp at Sunderland at low tide? if you have then am sure you can manage most launch sites :) i have seen me struggling to keep my feet on the weed never mind move the boat inline to the trailor :)

Good luck anyway some nasty nasty weather on its way so make the most of it, NE coast fishing a total loss until at least Friday maybe later if what i have been looking at is right.

Richy, how is your boat to big for towing around?????, any twin axle braked trailer with a weight of around 1500kg will tow it easily.

You can pick up a decent trailer for around £1200 to £1500, or you could borrow my trailer if you needed it, my boat is the same size and weight as yours and it tows no probe.

Be restricted to launch sites i would think due to the prop and rudder, a canny bit of my boat under the water unlike the sea hoggs etc, plus would need a new car and tow bar, mind i have talked about it this year with the wreck fishing almost dieing a death from Mid-July onwards.

What do you tow yours with Bob, whatd o you have now?

all you would need is a little bit more water under the keel, however as you say you may need a bigger car depending on what you drive now of course.

I have the same boat as you but with a 75 merc on the back.

Like you i would love to take it up to scotland, towing is no problem for me, i just don't have any of that type of fishng experience.

So if any out there is taking there boat up there i would love to tag along in my boat and learn all about that type of fishing.

Toying of bringing it up to the caravan and leaving it here for next year, or leaving it somewhere like ardwell

Not a great deal to it Bob, pollack fishing close in over rocky/ kelp ground laods of good marks around the Mull and further up. My fav mark is off Ardwell on a rocky patch and all along Dunsky castle port patrick area

Tope fishing, luce bay chucks them up, find a sandy bottom with a few holes and drop anchor after catching some fresh macky...used to fish from charters up there alot. Skate fishing is alot harder due to the depths you need to fish at, 600ft of anchor rope and all new end tackle is required but nothing a few quid and a few hours lookign on the net for cant fix.

Also when i was in Norway got a contact number off a lad that has his own boat in south Wales, he says he can promise 100% that if the weather is fine we would land between 5 and 10 bass per person per day on the sand banks he fishes...so thats one more type of fishing open to the trailor boat.

Sounds like you are talking yourself into a trailered boat Richie...

Personally i miss the convenience of being on a mooring for ease of launching, but thats the only thing i miss...

£200 a year to keep The Jester in The Yacht Club compound at Hartlepool, no anti fouling, i walk away and forget about it and check it every couple of weeks or so.....The ramp is in the compound, literally 25 yards from the boat..

Got the tow bar on the Disco now, and me and Rob are planning a trip the the Mull next year, also gonna tow it back up to sunderland next year to try out the old grounds again.....

I reckon trailer boats open up a whole different world of fishing options....:D

Dont Know if any of you lads have thought about the World sea fishing meet at weymouth

i have done it for the last few years and its great fun i towed my boat down from hartlepool

plenty of inshore marks and tons of species to go at

the shambles bank is there for the turbot as well

plent of lads tow from all over the country good accomodation is available the marina is first class

Thats a canny trek Sean, but definately something to keep in mind....;)

not with the new disco chris..:D piece of cake..

i'll need a new trailer or do some work on mine before it goes anywhere, i've mentioned the mull trip to a few people and there all quite keen...

You could go out with the lads who run Onyermarks or Riptide.
They are charter boats but Orkney 520s (I think) and are good because it's th kind of fishing you do on your boat yourself if you trail up there.
Plus they are trailer launched so you can pick up all the tips as you help them launch.
Might be worth not mentioning you are going to be trailering up there though as I did and I thought they clam up, even though your not going to be on their marks or anything.
Cheers,
Geoff

Hi Arthur

Its the 8th to the 15th of june

I tow my boat down each year on the saturday then fish till the following friday get it out saturday am then home again!

Weymouth has so much to offer the harbout moorings are right next to a great pub where everyone meets on the nights and has a few beers and discusses where to go next

accomodation is cheap a 2/3 bed place is from about 350 onwards so if there was 3 people splitting costs then not too bad

the marine including strailer storage for the week is about 80 to 100 depending on the boat

It is a great week with plenty of laughs and about 20+ boats make it each year the next one should be bigger

even if the weather is crap there is fishing in portland harbour where it is sheltered
