Was on the way out to throw lead into the sea but couldn't get bait so turned round and went to Durham with a spinning rod.
First decent fish I've caught this year.... barbel on a toby lure.
Hooked through the dorsal fin mind you nevertheless a first barbel for me.

Yeah, OK it ain't a flattie and should be in the freshwater forum.......

That's what I always thought. When I hit into it, it felt like I'd hooked a bit of old carpet. I was just going to pull it free and then it just started to move very slowly and I thought, "hell there's a fish on there".
It didn't make any dash off upstream or anything but just pulled in sort of deadweight with some backward and forwarding near the bank staying deep all the time.
1st barbel though so I'm chuffed about that.

Amazing video. He doesn't even wind the lure in, just lets it sit in the flow.
That's a lesson learnt

Off beach fishing today though.
