Not a happy bunny !!!!!

Not ignoring the issue of manufacturing quality by some rod suppliers.

There is a problem that some persons have with their casting style where during the casting arc they change direction suddenly. This sudden change of direction causes the rod to twist or snake. In the process it puts a lot of stress on the blank and can cause it to brake. It is a problem that I have occasionally and I don\'t even realise I\'m doing it, fortunately I haven\'t broken any rods yet but I don\'t use any by the supplier discussed here.

Ultimately, the quality of manufacture should be robust enough to accommodate some unintentional abuse of the rod during casting and the supplier discussed here most certainly has a serious problem with the quality of their rods.

Got to admit Steve that I was a tad worried when you said in an earlier post \"it casts a 5oz weight and a big bait a long way\". I didn\'t reply as I don\'t own a Triplex and therefore couldn\'t comment, but as the owner of an 18ft K2 LDC Extreme I can say that mine feels fully loaded with a 125g/140g (max) gripper and a scratching rig with small baits. I was told at the place where I bought it to ignore the 4-8oz sticker on the butt and use it as per the continentals would ie light weights, small baits and clean ground. It\'s basically a long range match style rod and needs to be treated accordingly. I remember KenSR posting a while ago about his 16\' 8\" K2 snapping, so they are obviously quite delicate and probably not best suited to our coastline and fishing styles.

All the same, I\'d be well p*ssed off too mate if it were mine :(

True Chris it\'s not a pretty sight lol .
Rob thanks for the reply mate ,I thought I\'d be alright with the rod being rated to 6oz, I did really go for a big cast and thought the rod would take it ,I\'ll be asking questions when I ring Greys on Monday ,I know allready what they will say and will hold them to it !!

They\'ve probably already read this so they will be waiting for your call ;)

i fished a match next to two lads yesterday one had a triplex the other a platinum and they look really nice rods.in fact one lad said the triplex was the nicest rod to fish with hed ever had and hes one of the best anglers in the country.they werent holding back with them either and whacking them out.some of them must just be a bit dodgy.

my mates appollo mk 1 snapped and greys repaired it by lopping 18 inches off the original length of the rod i was amused and my mate only realised this when we were sharing a rod stand on blyth beach
conoflex man meeself never had a problem in 15 years of good fishing with various rods

Spoken to Greys this afternoon and they are going to replace the damaged section ,nice enough people on the phone ,very helpfull ,I just hope I got a dodgy one and the relacement lasts !
thanks for all the help and replies lads.

How to make yourself feel you may have wasted your money in one easy lesson!
Step 1 attend tackle shop on 20/12/05
Step 2 after much deliberation spend readies on Greys Platinum
Step 3 following day log onto NESA and read posts about Greys rods
There you go feeling accomplished!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:(

dont worry flathead i am in the same boat our lass didnt listen to me (thats a suprise)and bought me an apollo. She did ask about it snapping and was reassured it wouldnt ,out of 300 he sold only 10 came back and if it did snap to take it back to shop and THEY would exchange it no questions asked.

Had a chuck with it last nite and i must say that im impressed its got good backbone and a lot of punch. looking forward to doing some real fishing with it. my other main rod is a zippie v-max f1 and it compares very well to that. :D

Pleased you like it flathead ,I reckon I\'ve just got a bad one ,after all there has to be a few that are sub standard like all things ..take cars for instance .... NO I\'m not gonna go there lol .

yep reckon your rite steve we could just start this thread all over again on any number of topics! but i suppose if youve got a lifetime warranty on it you can hardly moan just a bit or rather a lot inconvenient at the time!!
