october sea angler

I think the idea maybe good (who knows) but there are some good points I have seen. Improve fishing spots, fish stocks, hopefully get rid of the few that bring bad names to the sport. This is just a few. Will it improve over short term, I doubt it will it improve long term, well I hope.

And don't get me starter with litter left on piers etc

"good people will pay it, the ones that cause the problems wont"

once again the honest hard working person and not hitting the wrong type of person once again.

I know a few people at work that had a crash with a none tax or insu...they walk off worse and the cost of the fine is less than 2 years insurance for me.

Anyway i dont care...if we get one i will pay it because its life and i love the sport.

Cant see it making any diffrence to my fishing spots one bit. Still get the same people on if they have one or not and cant see much being put back into the sport.

dont get me wrong

i will be paying mine

as for bailiffs
every time ive fished a northumbrian water ive been stopped by a bailiff

its their job

Well of course I'll pay mine as well mate ,however I'll want to see things being done for the money I paid, I've never needed a rod licence before so what do you freshwater lads think of it ,is it worthwhile ? should it be scrapped or even increased if it's a good idea.

we will have to pay simple. I spend too much cash on my gear not to. With people like Yates and matchman behind it, It will come into force. Will it stop the day light papers and line left behind prolly not. Even chavs may buy one then Wallsendo may even be happy.

Iv'e fished Roker pier with kids from Geordie land through the day and night time, they tossed all there ****ty gear all owa and **** all owa too Mr Wallsendo.

Well said,

The place is nearly a bad a s**t tip as Seaham on occasions, and this place is open to anglers only "big security gates" can't blame the general public for the mess down there! Anglers should be holding there heads in shame!

I am of the opinion that a license will come and its only a matter of time.

The marine bill proposal was not given time to be discussed in the next session of parliament so it will be at least a year away.

When it arrives I will pay for one...but not before seeing improvements and changes that directly benifit recreational anglers.

Braine is dead right ...the cod limit for the North sea is 20000 tonnes which was reached very quickly...and an estimated 18000 tonnes has been discarded dead since...an absolute mockery of the catch limits and more should be done to stop bycatch by changes to the methods used by commercials.

A couple of things that have been moving along over the last few months.

Organisations like the SACN and NFSA have been calling for the introduction of a Golden mile. This is basically a new 1 mile limit where no trawling can take place. This has to be a great benifit to all anglers. This is a change to the normal policy of reacting to proposed legislation in that we are asking for changes that directly benifit us based on the fact the politicians finally found out how many of us there are. These proposals need support from the grass roots anglers if they are to stand any chance of succes.

Also

At the last SFC meeting a presentation was made by Seafish along the lines of how the commercial sector need to change their image to be seen as the good guys. for many years fisheries policy has been based on their demands and needs. But recently things have started to change with the Bass Management plan and the tope protection proposals getting a fair hearing with defra. The government have finally realised how much anglers are worth to the country...far more than the commercial industry and the commercial industry have realised they have to clean up their act and are no longer going to get their own way. They have had carte blanche in the management of OUR fish stocks for many years and have made a real mess of it.

For more information on the Golden Mile have a look at www.sacn.org.uk

There is also some facts about what happened when a license was introduced in portugal.

Its free to join the sacn and you will get information sent direct by email.

Cheers
Dave.

Likewise, and a good point

the thought has just occurred to me, regarding baliffs... the water companies are all private companies and employ there own baliffs, I'd like to bet that as part of the whole licencing process the baliffs are put out to tender and contracts awarded to the likes of the nearby water companies, who being motivated by profits more than anything else might police their patch quite heavily - give them something to do in close season as much as anything else

Let's just hope the bailliffs don't take a "gung ho" style attitude and chase every kid with a bamboo net from the shore's and estuaries.

I also hope if they come along the piers in summer they have a riot gear and hard hats :) Some of the people will be so lashed that a fine would not go down well.

To be fair, if paying a few quid stopped that kind of fisherman then bring it on.

rod licence

rod licence

so some of you are happy to buy a licence. are you happy with bag limits. paying for bait and not getting it for yourself.being told where you can and can;t fish .. if yes then buy one . me i will not put a nail in the coffin of the sport i love.............................

Mark,
In the replies made by various organisations both the Enviromental Agency and the SFC's offered to manage and police the license, subject to funding being made available to set it up.

My bet would be for it to be given to the EA as they have the system in place to sell the coarse license.

A report by the NESFC came up with an annual extra cost to operate the scheme of £150,000 which does not include the cost of an extra patrol boat.

The money raised by the license is supposed to be ringfenced and put back into the fisheries but personally I cant see there been much left after running costs.

Cheers
Dave

blah blah blah

blah blah blah

as usual everyone has an opinion and start blaming trawlers and government. maybe we should look at the way the rivers and coast were fished in the past and present by us anglers. as ive heard so many times "you needed 25 flouders to win matches and 30 pound of codling, tales of coastline and river banks littered with dead fish also the taking of size fish espeacally codling as only a few large cod can sporn i think its about 8 pound plus, so when we take big fish home we actually take alot more than one. with the introdution of measure and release matches things are changing, read the match results for this year some great fish already caught aound the northeast. as for roker pier theres no bins on there(fact) im not saying it would solve the issue but its like the liscense debate everyone says "they still dump rubbish, they will burn the bins blah blah blah....but im sure it woud not cost much to try, as for the comment on alan yates making a fortune from the liscence "how would he and i dont think he is that desperate" its comments like that, that really make the fishing community suffer because we need people like him to give his view as he probaly knows more about dwindling numbers of fish than most people. so when it comes to talking sense to peope in government about the situation and what anglers want and need i dont think they'll be knocking on our door including mine,im sure they'll take a man whos fish career and expertiseare second to none also one of the very few fishing journalists so bear it in mind about the people who are in our corner, i dont think alan yates would back something he did not think would help the average angler.

and why does everyone on this site keep apoligising at the end of posts i thought this is what forums are for.... cheers
