after our chat yesterday the bairn went and showed everyone up by catching a 190lb skate, took him 40 minutes to land, and he was well chuffed as he\'s beaten my biggest by 3lb....little git, and he won\'t let me forget it :casstet:

i of course blanked, the only bite i had all day was a spurdog on the light rod and it bit the hook off on the way up :casstet:

i\'ll post the photo when it\'s emailed to me

lol @ gogs,

like my old dad used to say to me,\"you might be bigger than me, but you\'ll never be big enough\"

my dad was 5\'6\" and 10st 7lb soaking wet, i\'m 6\' 1\" and 19st, and i wouldn\'t dare lift my hand to him, and he knew it, even though he took great delight in giving me a few hidings which were a bit unjustified.....

Aye Les same story here mate and as Norman says ,might not apply these days . Just been watching my fifteen year old punching the life out of his punchbag .. so much testosterone and anger, takes me right back.

hi jason,

not sure how old these fish are, a lot of people think they are 100 years old, but thats not the case, she might only be 20 or so years old, younger even.

last year my mate caught a tagged fish caught by \"iona\" who posts occasionally on this forum, she had been at liberty about 1 year 7 months, had moved about 3 miles and when dale caught her she measured out at exactly 100lb, when we measured her she came out at 136lb.

we also caught a fish last year at 173lb and found through her tag she was caught by one of the northeast dinghy club members, she had been at liberty for 3 or 4 years and hadn\'t grown at all, still the same measurements

so they do survive their ordeal and they do grow quite quickly, davy holt will probably see this sometime soon and give us more info....eh davy??

for more info try

hi steve,

i worked with my dad for 15 years and we fought like cat and dog, he\'s been dead for 5 years now and i still miss him for company and advice

Hiya,
She is certaily a crackin looking fish :)

for more info on the Common Skate it\'s www.thecatchalot.co.uk

She will probably be between 30 and 40 years old, on average a female can put on as much as 14lb in a year but this is no consistent. Quite often they stop growing for a few years then start again. Also when the fish get to that sort of size they tend to have slowed right down on the growth rate. However like everything else you do get one\'s that don\'t read the books and have reached weights of 465lb :)

hi davy,

she was a heavy bugger....lol

it was a bit lumpy when the tide started to ebb and crawling about on my hands and knees measuring, checking, unhooking etc left me with the boak...lol

be nice when i come up to fish with you having someone else to do the donkey work ;)

although i was up at stevies last week, we can\'t seem to get our diaries to match for a few weekends between matches for stevie and staff holidays etc for me

Nice one Les & son, 45 minutes to bring it in :o I bet his arms were cramped, I know mine would\'ve been :D
It looks a bit lumpy out the in the pic too!

My dads 70 in July & I still wouldn\'t dream of fighting with him, probably cos I would never need too but as I kid the fear was put in me/us (4 lads)
Anyway I bet I\'d still get sparked, LOL he was right hard nut like :casstet:

aye gogs, i should stick to the \"old wife beater\" like yourself... :P

andy, it was his back that was the worst, he was using \"tonys pigsticker\" an 80lb class standup tuna rod the doesn\'t bend, therefore all the weight is at the tip of the rod 5\' 9\" from you... a hard game :casstet:
