your views please gentlemen (and ladies;))got a couple of slohs's that am very happy with but looking for something a bit more bling wi magnets an all that, (need all the help i can get:D) have heard the 20 is lacking a bit on the line capacity front and the 30 is maybe too big (am not a monster caster btw) severe lack of budget:mad: and the okuma's price is very appealing..... been looking at second hand 525 mags, 6500 mag wotsits etc but never had nowt new so was wanting a tij advice.:confused: this wouldn't be for the really rough stuff, the slosh's can cope with that. wad d'ya reckon:confused:

cheers in advance

I have a MG20, it is a bit on the small side line capacity, you need to use low diameter line with shockleader (good combo anyway in my opinion).

The Reel is as fast as you could want or as controlled as you want, has superb winching power I've seen mine winch half a tree up the side, it's never let me down good solid reel.

A mate has just bought a MG30, a propa BIG reel, wish okuma would do a MG25 as that would be perfect.

I simply can't fault the magnetix reels, though I would recommend staying clear of the level wind versions and only getting the none level winds (MG20CS or MG30CS).

I got a 30 okuma and found it to big havent tried any of the penns but have got the slosh 30 and love it also got the 6500 mag elite for clean ground and the river very smooth but had it serviced recently and it is fast as f!!!!k have had to keep mags on almost full

hey mate, i have both the okoma magnitex 30 and a penn mag 525, both great reals, but one thing with the okuma, its verry comlicated to put it back togeher, even some one who knows about reals is having difficulty, the 525 is great aswell, but you need a low diamater line, i have 30lb sea strick on both of them and only about 130 yards of line on the 525 and alot more on the okuma, which i like about it, i find myself using the okuma more than my 525 and its a great casting real, i can do about 150 yards with it and im not a great caster, well worth the money

My 1st multi (not including the Mitchel Gacia thing I had as a kid) was the MG20 level wind version I took it apart within about 10 minutes of owning it lol,, can't say it's overly complex inside compared to a fixed spool reel anyway.

though I make a point of photographing as I take bits apart
(i.e. gear end before opening of MG20 IMAGE CLICK HERE

i have one and found it a really good reel maybe a spin off from a slosh 20 ?
only thing i find is its a little bit noisy when casting :o

steve

many thanks for your reply's boys but................do i go for the okuma 20 non level wind or hang on and hopefully get an abu mag or a 525mag:confused: somebody make me mind up for me please:D:D:D

Ive got the 30 filled with 40lb line and it is spot on for fishing any cliffs or rock marks where you dont need big distances (although it does cast well for a big reel).

Me mate Harra has one (Magnetix)and loves it, as stevie says they are noisy when casting but its not a fault cos theyre all like that. Good casting reel and winches like a beast, think he has the bigger of the 2 without the levelwind. They seem to be lasting aswell.

He looks in noo and again when hes not on the lash, he'll tell you better but i know he's using it at the mo, every monday, and hasnt had any bother with it.

For clean ground i would go for a slosh 20 or 2nd hand 525 or abu 6500 mag. Just my opinion. I love my 6500 sports mag it's a great casting reel and very smooth.
