so like a lot of lads on here it was my fatha what got me into fishing, I can remember going to balcary with him and his pals when I was about 8yrs old (sure we blanked like!) well he past away fairly early on in my life so I didn't get to do as much fishing with him as I'd of liked, anyway I was round my mothers last night and she asked me to get something out the garage for her, so while I was in the garage I had a little mooch and there in some old draws was some of my fathas old gear, hooks, swivels, rigs, weights, lures and in a little bag was an old penn squidder reel, still in canny nick considering its got to be over 30yrs old! a further rummage around unearthed an old rod stand, but im thinking to myself "wheres the rods?" looked everywhere...nowt, then I looked up and there slid along the joists of the roof I spot them, 2 old conoflex rods, ones 12ft canny stiff, the other ones 13ft+ and a bit softer, both in need of a rebuild like but I was still owa the moon! cheers Dad;)

Good finds there then :D My Dad wasnt in to fishing but i have a few things that belonged to my Granda, Old Mitchell reels and an old fly fishing reel, Dont think i would ever part with them even though they dont get used

aye it was a canny find eh? I was chuffed like, its funny how little things can trigger off memories and I probably will get one or both re built at some point and like you say reg, use with pride, might even help me improve my game! lol, cheers lads, mick.

nice to find some of ya dads old fishing gear that would bring back a lot of good memories for you.I can remember back when I was just 20 my dad came home of night shift at the steel works and said he would like to go down to shields pier with me.
in those days we had to get a bus from Stanley to Newcastle then the train down to shields there used to be some old wood benches on the pier then, I had only been fishing for about an hour got a bite turned around to tell me dad and he was fast asleep on the bench these are things you never forget.
even now when I fish shields pier I can see my dad asleep on that bench 47 years ago.

I have great memories of fishing shields pier and the old rat house some 47 years ago,
shields pier the snow coming at you from Tynemouth you could not even see the water but you still got fish.
going down to the rat house on the afternoon sitting in the winter sunshine catching coalies on each cast , having a shot at the rats with my air pistol after dark.
getting stuck on the top of the gate on roker pier ****ing down with rain lost my footing waders got hung up on the spike railings on the top my mate could not stop laughing :red: by this time I was upside down had to pull my foot out of the wader then get back up to get my wader with one big hole in it :D

your suppose to slowdown dale, when you retire?what with buying new rods, reels, casting lessons.now your going to start shooting the rats.toonboymc usually fishes around that area, dont shoot him by mistake,{only joking mick}.ps ive got a sledge if you want it.will be canny for going down delves lane.keep up your great reports dale @ enjoy yourself good on you.:thumbup:

its a long time ago since I used to take pot shots at the rats on the old rathouse long before the yacht club was there .
the pilot house used to be there also you could drive right up onto the rathouse and park. when the pilot cutter used to come in he used to sound his horn for you to pull in your line so he could pull up to the steps to let the pilot off go back into the office.
some times lads used to come down on there bikes and they would go up to the chippy or to the wood café at the top and bring some chips back down for you just give them a few bob for going.
there was a guy talking about the bait the café used to sell red rag never caught nowt myself with it. cos then the cafe used to sell tackle at one end of the shop.
they used to do a cracking bacon butty and home made soup used call in on the way home after night fishing on the pier.
as for my age well I am still a kid at hart :D as for me gear most of it is second hand get it of my m8 paul he has more tackle than frasers tackle shop (proper tackle tart) but an excellent m8.
the sledge would be great as it has been snowing in delves today is a goodin.
