I've mainly been fishing the River Tyne of late and have had mixed results with Eels mainly (loads of them) one or two size Codling and nice Flounder, however the Flounder do seem to be in short supply this year. I've been surprised with the first Bass I've ever seen from the Tyne to......and I've been up to St Abbs in Scotland catching Codling on the float.

Longest Flounder 41cm

The odd Codling among the numerous Tyne Eels

A surprise Bass for 13 year old Robbie Gilmore who I often take fishing at Hebburn. The first I've ever seen from the Tyne and Robbies first ever.

My only visit so far this year to St Abbs saw Codling on the float

To sum everything up the Tyne is a little strange at the moment with loads of Eels to be caught, I've never seen so many! There's a lack of Flounders but some good ones to be caught when you can find them along with the odd size Codling to.

St Abbs and Eyemouth have a few nice Codling and Coalfish when things are settled but Wrasse numbers seem to be in decline, I wonder if the cold Winter has had an effect on these fish?

I've found it to be a strange start to the Summer as shore fishing goes but there are plenty of fish to be caught if like me your happy catching anything with the odd decent fish and some surprises to. Tightlines, Dave.

I mainly fish the stretch from Church bank at Hebburn up to the Elephant on the Tyne at Felling. Small tides I go up towards Felling to catch the stronger tide and deeper water and on the big tides I fish at Church Bank Hebburn sometimes Jarrow Police launch to.
