One year anniversary!

Exactly a year ago today, I was in Go Outdoors in Newcastle and I decided to get a cheap fishing rod, just so that I had something to do to kill a few hours on a sunny afternoon......since then I’ve had 17 rods! I’ve had many very early mornings and very late nights and I’ve been out in some of the best and worst weather we’ve had in the past year. (I’ve also caught 17 species of fish). Needless to say, what was just going to be something to do now and then, quickly turned into an obsession.

This Saturday will be the ‘anniversary’ of my first session on shields pier (I had four casts, got four snags, and lost 4 sets of gear!) so I'ill be down there this Saturday night, and hopefully I’ll have more success than that!

Being part of NESA, and getting loads of advice and encouragement and meeting all the members I’ve met, has made fishing a lot easier and more successful and a lot more fun, so thanks very much fellas!

:D

Group hug!!! :D

Fishing is something I've done since I was 3 when my dad took me I to shields pier, I caught a colie and was hooked (pardon the pun). Cracking to see people still coming Into fishing no matter what their age. Cracking first year Andy! Need to stop chopping and changing your rods as much though :D

Great story mate and good to hear. Try and stick to one rod if you can, but ritch coming from me like lol but when you find one keep it lol

good luck saturday night andyco.curious,so whats the best or most important thing you have learnt, at a quess i would say bait choice?now thats got you thinking .haha.

its over 50years since I first cast a line on ssp pier that was the start of me fishing its a great sport and I am just as keen to as I was then. I do both fly fishing and sea fishing.
since I joined nesa I have found these lads to be spot on with help advice and information about fishing more so when you meet a member in person for the first time and spend time talking fishing.
like all sports you get the good guys and the pricks but that's life .
I hope you enjoy your fishing for many more years m8 best of luck on your next outing .

To learn my marks. It might sound odd to people who’ve been fishing the same marks for years but, to me, mark knowledge is a new thing. When I started, I was fishing different marks every time I went out, and sometimes fishing two or three marks the same day. It has got me to lots of different places, but I think I was only catching when I got lucky.

I still like to try different places, but I’ve learned that it’s better to stick with a few marks and fish them as often as possible to learn what fish are around, what rigs, hooks and bait to use and when to fish them (depending on the tide and the swell). I’ve found it’s easier to have a successful session when you’ve got plenty of knowledge of the mark you’re fishing!

So, I’m on my two regular marks this week - the beach tonight and the pier at the weekend – I really need to finish the year with a bass off shields beach tonight and a dogfish off the pier on Saturday!

Good luck on the bass I've never caught 1 either

Cheers, I was down there the other night, and for about 2 hours I was getting real bangs on the hook, I could feel the fish but just couldnt hook them. im almost certain it was bass! i think im getting closer!
