OUT TONIGHT........BUT WHY?

Now I know we can all have \"off nights\" and get a bit peed off about not catching anything, but has anybody SERIOUSLY thought about packing this fishing lark in - or even just wondered WHY you go fishing in the first place?

I had a few hours out tonight (8:00 \'til 11:30) - wasn\'t intending to go fishing tonight but just a spur of the moment thing. Checked what bait was in the freezer: some runny, mussel, squid & mackeral - not a lot, but enough for a few hours out.

A couple of hours and 2 whiting into the session, I got to wondering \"why am I here doing this?\" and realised that I wasn\'t really enjoying being out fishing - 1st time I\'ve ever felt that. As most of you will know, I\'m no stranger to the \"blank session\" and in the past, even when I\'m having one of those frequent \"blank sessions\", I\'ve still enjoyed being out fishing.
Tonight, I wasn\'t blanking - infact given the length of time / number of fish caught ratio, I was having quite a good session (for me...lol).

So WHY did I get to thinking the way I did????
Beats me......I hope it\'s nothing serious......lol

Must be something serious if you are back in allready mate lol.

I get one of those night\'s every now and again but soon get over it.

Could well have had one tonight but that was down to the spawny git I was fishing with lol.

being out fishing and thinky why am i here is beter than being stuck in a house wanting to go fishing and thinking why cant i just get out the door

TC I\'ve found it very hard to get out this year. For the first time since I started up again the thought of getting my cold wet waders on, on top of my itchy monkey suit and stinking jacket just does not do it at the moment. I normally love being cold (honest, gimme cold over hot anyday, at least a man can cover up and show of his extreme weather wear to the ladies and that) I like the rain as well, life feels exciting when you\'re under a good hood with 2 flasks of tomato soup on your hip.

Mind at the minute I\'m finding it hard to get out of bed and like Jodie Marsh may kill myself at any minute! (by beating myself over the head with one of my own (?) Breasts)

I put the blame squarely on jeff and BriH\'s shoulders.

As my mate Geordie says on a regular basis, at all times of tide and at the top of his rotten lungs ..........................\"WE MUST BE FUCKING BARMY\"

lol nice on charlie its a funny thing but i just cant make it outa the door spent a fortune on bait and it keeps geting wasted the mind is a ****ing weird thing ill fight it tho lol :casstet: :casstet: :casstet:

Tony, people ask me at work the same thing. I just say when you get those nights and the sea is raging they think you must be cold. But with the warm gear and lots to think about, especially when you\'re searching for your next point in a match you\'re not thinking about tomorrow at work or the grief at home........ you\'re \"RELAXING\"

Happens to us all, if you like it you\'ll get over it, if not I\'ll watch the for sale threads. ;)

Just a blip

Spent many an icey, wet, snowy, windy, catchless night when I\'ve been fishing, Peter...... neither the weather, nor lack of fish has ever made me feel the way I felt tonight.
It wasn\'t cold, it wasn\'t raining, wasn\'t windy and I\'d caught fish......lol

Mebbies the \"spur of the moment\" thing just didn\'t work tonight........didn\'t have time to build up the anticipation....lol

Perhaps I hadn\'t switched off and got to the \"relaxing\" stage.........certainly had \"lots to think about\" but it wasn\'t on what I was doing at the time - fishing.

Sometimes get like this but usually when I\'m fishing by myself, which isn\'t alot,I need the crack off someone to get me juices flowing. Have they caught owt recently/what have they heard being caught all the normal stuff, left to myself I usually pack up earlier than I would if I was out fishing with my mates...just a thought anyways

I felt a bit like that lastnight Tony fished a few places I spotted at Blyth beach at low tide, nowt but undersize codling and Whiting, walked up to the pier and everyone was coming off,all blanking, got talking to a lad and his son,his second name is Hood and his brother fishes for Seaton Sluice club, forgot his first name Darren or David, his son caught his first Codling only about 12\" long but was over the moon, nice to see someone go home happy and no doubt he\'ll be back out with his dad for a bigger one ;)

Think we have all felt like that at times,we all have to recall that at the end of the day we can feel like that when we are not fishing.
Just the kind of mood that we can get into.
I am lucky i suppose,it is all still pretty new to me,so i still have the excitement of tryng new marks, tatctics, rigs etc.
I doub\'t that fishing would ever become easy,or too pat,but if the feeling is repeated then maybe it is time to try something new yourself.
Cahnge the rotinue,a off the wall daft to be here spot.
Who knows,at the end of the day it is a hobby, there are far more importent things in life.

Jeff what do you want ,the soup or breasts - one flask each ,after the soup - Ell are they the big wide ones (Flasks not Breasts ,Hmm now let me think Ha Ha :P :P )

and i have also wondered ,much like TC and Ell - must be something in the water - as it isnt Cod is it

I\'m still enjoying it as much, although when you go down to a place in perfect conditions and end up with barely a bite, it does make you wonder. But by the time it comes to the next session, I\'m desperate for my fix again and that first solid thump on your rod tip makes it all worthwhile again

pull yoursen together TC ,whats the matter with ya man ,heck i can see me coming up and having to slap yer with a big fish ,its the ole mind playing tricks on you.just think you could be bored to tears in the hoose or stood gazing out to sea with the expectation of a lunker finding your bait and having a bit of banter with some of the lads ;) ;) ;) :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

just a thought but maybe try and go out and target a certain species of fish ie whiting one night and flatties the next instead of chasing the ever illusive cod constantly it hones your skills in all areas of the sport and gives you a real sense of achievement when you catch what your after all of sudden catching whities and dabs isnt so boring and whilst searching for these species your tactics you wouldnt normally use throw up some interesting surprises like bass, wrasse, rockling ,eels and loads more it just keeps the adventure alive for me and certainly helps me get over the blues of fishing the same marks over again with big baits for mr cod
if none of this helps mate im sure you will soon be staring at that tip again and smiling.

Got to agree with Bigchris. I was getting a bit pee\'d last year chucking bait out only to get an empty hook back (crabs) or worse the bait back totally untouched (sod all about), so instead of going out with bait I started to use a lighter rod with lures/jelly worms/rubber eels etc and got to say I thoroughly enjoyed the change. Keeps you active all the time, constant casting, also gets you a good indication of what the seabed is like once you\'ve got the bottle to bounce the lead and lure across the bottom, just need to switch off the \'gotta keep it up in the water or it\'ll snag\' mentality. Mainly tried off Shields and Roker piers and caught quite a few Coley\'s, some Pollack and even a couple of Codling. Also had a few goes off the beaches and again had coley\'s and a couple of bass. Another plus side is as you don\'t need fresh bait you can get out whenever you feel the urge. Had a good number of early mornings on the pier before work.

So don\'t contemplate jacking it in just try something a bit different.

Great idea Chris and Mick I have been trying a bit of the same.

Problem is, does it work in the dark as TC doesn\'t get out that much during the day. Someting to do with his boyhood days back in Transylvania lol. ;)
