Outboard Engine, New or Used??????

Me and Micky sold Nefin before Christmas and replaced her with a four year old warrior 150. The boat came fitted with a mariner 30hp long shaft two stroke which just isn't enough to get her on the plane with the two of us aboard. We are deliberating which route to take for a replacement engine whether thats a brand new one or a secondhand one.
The warrior people said that the boat is best matched to a 50hp engine as a 60hp was maybe a touch too heavy especially if it was a four stroke with the 50hp giving speeds over 30knots, a touch faster than Nefin's 8 knots flat out!

We have been burned once before with a dodgey used engine and always bought new since, two tohatsu's with no problems but with this size of engine the price has increased just a little compared to the 10hp and 15hp we have bought previously. We would prefer a new one with warranty etc but its the cost you have to weigh up especially with marina fees due this month and me trying to convince my missus! With the season looming the decision has to be made and any input would be welcome or if anyone knows of a good used engine for sale or a good deal on a new one. Make is unimportant just as long as the engine is in tip top condition at the right price. It just seems when you look at secondhand engines people expect crazy money for old engines or at least that is what it looks like. Thanks in adavance,

Graham.:confused::confused::confused:

stick one of these on it but buy from a reputable dealer the dealer in the link is supposed to be ok but he is a long way away but there could be up to 12 months waranty left on that engine

also dont accept a short waranty if they know its ok they will give you a decent waranty

Evinrude Outboard Engine for sale , Evinrude 50hp.E-Tec. 2006 - Boats And Outboards

even better deal here and they are light only 106 kg as a four stroke will be a lot heavier

Evinrude Outboard Engine for sale , E-Tec. 50HP.Best prices(NOW WITH 5 YEAR WARRANTY) - Boats And Outboards

as how many hours and dont touch anything older than 4 years as any older will be a nightmare

also stay clear from ex rnli motors as some are ok but the biggest majority are knackered

stay clear from the big dealer in lancashire that advertises everywhere

otherwise buy new as a fifty can be had for 4 grand and you might be suprised on how much you will get for yours

seconded, wouldn't trust em to service a lawnmower

had a very bad experience with them 2 years ago with a Mariner 50 4stroke,

£2500 wasted

PA lynch in Morpeth might be worth a trip

you'll get a good deal on a suzuki new, and theya re superb engines, or they've got any second hand motors in, you'll not get a wrong un

look at that suzuki and when you add the missing biits add another grand and as for the fitting that will be about 300 then the servicing i think its about 3 in the first year and 3 in the secong they have been discussed very heavily on other forums as the servicing is costing people a fortune just to keep the waranty
