Hi there I am a carp/ tench freshwater fisherman during the summer and have aquired some sea gear (Century Compressor plus large multiplier) I would like a basic skills lesson on tackle and bait set up. Fishing anywhere of anyone's choice to get started. I am based in Durham so don't mind travelling locally to the coast and can make most days/evenings... can't do very late nights as have a family maybe an hour or two into dark possible or through the day. Lads on here seem sound thus the request... pm if preferred ...

Catching a fish not essential :)

mate join toonyboy and the crabstick crew. you'll get a laugh if nowt else. Mick's the godfather of Roker Pier now.:)

am sure if you popped along to one of the local fishing haunts piers in particular there will be plenty to give advice,

That's a nice rod you got-Century Compressor. If you not used a multiplyer before you need some advice.
A lot of anglers now actually use fixed spools with braid so it might be worth looking for a swap.
Mick.

Thanks everyone sounds like a few might risk my company ... anyone out next week anywhere maybe???

As I said before pm if preferable to the thread :)

Mick Dunn I have tried once with multiplier and got more birds nests than a Belgian chimney ... I have a new slosh multiplier but never risked it ,,, a birds nest at twighlight is a nightmare and spoils the occasion :(

As mentioned above you would be much better off getting rid of the multipliers and buying a good shimano or penn fixed spool. People get a bit fixated on using multi's but they are not the best thing to learn to sea fish on. Casting distance, retrieve etc are all similar with less hassle.

Will check the piers next Wed or Thurs probs so if anyone spots someone looking like they're making peas pudding with a fishing rod that'll be me so make yourself known :)

just go onto any of the piers m8 there will always be lads on there glad to advice you and help you enjoy sea fishing you just have to ask.

We all managed fine 30 years ago on Mitchell 602APs with no brakes. People today have no patience :p

Trouble with the piers is theres more than one or two knackers normally about, he doesn't want to be getting the wrong kind of advice.

Just go fishing mate. You will get more help from the lads you talk to than anything on a forum. The lads will show you rigs, best baits, how to hook a bait properly and most important of all you will get tips on local marks, when to fish and possibly an invite.
What most people don't like is someone who wants to walk in, have it all put on a plate and expect to do it all with little effort.
I have been fishing 42 years and am only now just starting to even think I have begun to ' get it ' LOL

Good luck, get out and talk :-)

Will do fella but tackle tips are essential as carp fishing and sea fishing are completely different animals :)

Tackle or rigs are more designed for the ground you are fishing more than the species as a general rule. Sea fish are rarely caught twice. Fishing in a barrel for carp the fish are caught many times and learn to avoid a bait. They are fed constantly by anglers so are not dependent on weather conditions for food.
Sea fish are very dependent on weather, tide and local variables, thats the hardest part to learn. With sea fish its the right bait on the right rig, in the right location at the right time.... IMHO.

Matt Hayes does my head in. I would love to see how he does on a January night at 3.00am with a 60mph easterly in his face on a beach or pier north of Hull. He would **** his pants.

Yes I had those old reliable Mitchell multipliers, good for anything and anyground.
what made me laugh was when the eg Abu 7000`s came out with the brakes and levelwind, they used to remove the small brake blocks and the level wind as it slowed down the cast thus shortening the cast distance.

then in theory the reel was then the same as the old Mitchells, but cost twice the price if not more.
of course I fell into the same trap as everyone, got the 7000, 9000, 7500 then the 6500 elite to which I still have all the original reels today and still use them all too, so they have lasted throughout the test of many winters and Balcary trips.

So at the end of the day, old saying goes you get what you pay for, Abu original Sweden made reels are the best.
also got the Slosh 30 when that appeared, and still have that today too, one of the first in the north east.

old mate used to have the Intrepid seastreak....blew up every winter at least twice, lots many parts.

good old days, wish the fish numbers today were still as 30 yrs ago along the coast

Replied to one and all and thanks for the ideas on gear... have been given a large fixed spool reel to try out. Will be out when the weather gives as a bit of a fairweather fan rather than some of the hardened lads that post on here out in all conditions :o
