I admit I am a dip!!
A didnt quite read the post properly, so sorry. A do stick to me guns that you can keep crab alive in fresh seawater for at least a couple of days b4 problems will occur. A walked into an invisable trap when a opened me trap.!

Keep them cool, if there too cold then ya slowing their motabalism down and slowing the peeling process (good if ya wanting to hold them back)
Too hot and ya cook 'em
I keep mine in the fridge but dunno what temp it's at but it's right for me, they get a 20 min drink of fresh sea water every day, this usually keeps them ticking away nicely.
If I want to get them all popping I put them in a big bucket of fresh sea water with the air pump on full chat and leave them in the shed, checking every hour or so.
This is by no means the best/only way to bring 'em on but it works for me

you can understand why crabs are so expensive quite a bit of work involved andy do,nt worry kidda your still a canny hand at fishing and for a young in can out a few of us oldies and put to shame, but you learn a lot from us like a friend of mine said who is a real good hand we think we no it all about fishing but when you go out you realise how much thier is still to learn. something like that,i,m sure when he reads this he will put the phrase on [dan adrenilane] of course i do no it all [not]

I its hard work, especially the crabbing bit, but its nice to get stuck in and get ya hands dirty. As a said earlier i use an air pump for mine and for two years its done the business.
Recently the crab av been collecting are just starting to split down the sides, perfecto!!
