Peeler prices

Royal mail has a list of living creatures you're allowed to post, it is restricted to:
Bees, Leeches, Pupae and Chrysalides, Caterpillars, Lugworms, Rag worms, Earthworms, Maggots, Silkworms, Fish fry and Fish eggs, Mealworms, Crickets, certain Parasites and destroyers of Noxious Pests, and some other insects sent between recognised institutions are allowed. You must use boxes that protect both the creatures and Royal Mail staff from harm. Use First Class as the minimum service and clearly label the package as "URGENT - LIVING CREATURES". Mark the sender's name and address on the outer wrapping.

So unless a seller is sending via a courier, then crabs are not allowed, nor are any fish larger than fry.

Ebay however does state that it will allow the sale of the following living animals provided they are sent next day delivery (obviously by courier where prohibited by royal mail) or collected in person:
Aquarium or pond fish, snails or similar creatures.

Lobsters, crabs, shellfish and other similar creatures that are live when sold but intended for human consumption.

Live insects, crickets and worms used as bait or feeder food for pets.

In addition, eBay permits the sale of hatching eggs provided the seller offers domestic-only shipping within the UK
note the comment against crabs saying "for human consumption" - ie not for bait!

ne chance i would pay that like best thing to de is get the kids out on the beach give them a peeler each tell them that whoever gets the most of these sort of crab gets a tenner

Too late in the season now to be deemed a decent bait. Around February they start to come into their own again. Unless you can get fresh of course.

You won't get many if any peeler in a pot mate and this is the wrong time of year for peeler. You need to go down the rocks in spring and look under the rocks and seaweed for crabs that are starting to split around the back of the shell. These are peeler.
You get them in tyres burried in the rivers, sweep your hand around them and hope. Don't do other peep's tyres or you will get linched lol.

I know people have said on this forum that they have found hard backs in cod when they have been gutted but i have never came across this. The crabs that i have found are always peelers even if its in there early stages where there new leg is watery. People may think its a hardback but just snap of its last leg segment and u'll find its a peeler that has been eaten. Might be wrong like but thats what i've found and wouldnt use hard backs.

I've caught fish one the boat using hard back crabs...I just lanced the little fella through the back and dropped down...thing is with casting it prob wouldn't stand up to the task very well.

I know Normans 16lber caught off the boat in September had two nigh on size hard back edible crabs in its gut according to Mr C

I've gutted codling before thats had small hardback crabs in and soft back crabs but never peeler :o.
