pendulum

niel kelland cast 300 yds wth ,37dia using 175grm lead he could of used the commonly used ,35 dia but did,nt .

think myself when learning probaly better off using thicker mono and make reel docile as feel of rod etc is most important not distance just my opion of course.

common sense :)

Not disputing the fact but he asked if the line was any good for extra casting distance , in my opinion in the normal fishing breaking strains for extra distance it isnt .
Yes Neil Kelland cast 300yds on the 175 g but he isnt Neil Kelland ,for us less than world class casters the thinner the line the further the lead usually goes , that includes me , you and 99% of other casters .

No probs John I read it as if he wondered if the line would help .

Norman taught me mate , top bloke .

i went and had a casting sesh tonite and when i fianlly started to get used it i was bearlly gettin any further than when i just dangled it then i got a birdie and snapped off so i just packed up and came home i also need to reinvest in some new line and was wondering if daiwa sensor was any good

when i originally read this, i took it to mean because he was lacking distance he wanted a new line that would help him gain a bit extra distance, possibly on re-reading it, he is asking if sensor is any good as a line, not for casting.

I would say that the post implies he's going to use the sensor for distance chucking if it's recommended.

Just a few things to remember this can be a very dangerous cast and your knots shud be checked before trying and as you get it right a flapper may help matters as bieng a big bloke you will struggle to hold the reel down specialy when line is wet and temp drops good luck anyway coz you will get a real buz when u do get it rite and the sinker with line and bait attached flies off in to the distance!

NESA used to have the odd free casting clinic attended by some superb casters. Peter Thain I believe was involved, maybe something simialr could be organised?

Daiwa Sensor 18lb is good for Distance mate. It's slightly thicker than normal 18lb line but who gives a hoot.

It's for fishing not casting. The time to worry is when you empty your reel with it with a bait on!

Yeah fair enough mate but it is a fact that you will be able to chuck further with a lower diameter line and sometimes this can be an advantage

Get a couple of lessons off Bob Collins (arc)
I also wanted to learn the pendulum but he showed me the correct way to cast off the ground first, am now pendulum casting, no where near as good as the other lads on the tournament field but my best measure to date is 224 yds
The lesson bob gave me was well worth it - highly recommended
