i would recommend the okuma magnetex 30 cs or ls,(level or non level wind, i dont like level winds but each to their own), 6-1 retrieve gets your gear up and moving quickly, huge line capacity, big nobbly handle, approx £70 and you get a 5 year warranty! i know a few lads who use these and have nothing but good things to say about them, excellent for heavy work, also very good casting reels, drag good fish through kelp and rocks. can't comment on the slosh as iv'e never used one!

i have couple 525's, 7000's, and a 535, all good reels, but i now only use 525's for clean beaches, the 7000's and 535 i use for the boat. the magnetex knocked spots off all these reels.

i,ve had a couple of sl30,s in my time have also been looking at 535,s they seem big and bulky more a boat reel ya think what iam looking for is a good rock reel that can cast if needed the 525 can do all that but ya cant get enough line on . jamcod

hi jam your just to good a caster lol i have a 535 super mag with 40lb power pro braid cast great you get about 300yd on dont think you will cast that off lol

Not being mean mate but the okuma's r heaps of plastic ****e! Ano a few people which they've broked on, the magnets DONT work, and there far too big for what they are and are overated in sum areas. Yes, there dirt cheap, but your paying for what u get, ****e!!:D

It al depends on what u like, but an okuma magnetix could never knock spots of a penn mag, and am sure many members on here will agree with me.

aye forgot about the 535mag tryed to get one a couple of months ago from lewis tackle waited a month no luck he couldent get one , cheers for that codman jamcod

A would go for a 535 mate got a couple of them and for rock edging I couldn't fault them hold plenty line and pull fish through the
Roughest of ground no problem.

.

.

I only use the Saltist 30 with 40lb line str8 thru for the heavy stuff.... excellent reel bags of power and casts like a dream .... but there's plenty out there to choose from ... but the Slosh 30 .. cant go wrong for the price

stick with the penn mag.

try 20lb sensor. gets the bait where it needs to be and is more like 25lb line. needs a good shocker knot though

check my post mate, i didnt say it would knock spots of penn mag, i prefer to use the magnetex instead of the 7000's and 535. i have 2 magnetex which have been well used on heavy ground around northumberland and up arbroath way, never had a problem past 3 years. my brother pendulums with them , he did however manage to blow one up which was over 2 years old and well used, he got sent a brand new replacement!

as for the magnets not working??????? strange statement that one!!! mine work perfectly thanks.

i'm no tackle tart, just need the kit to do it's job, and the magnetex do this job well, i simply stated i have a 535 and prefer the magnetex, sounds like you don't have a magnetex so you aren't in a position to offer a comparison really are you, which i must admit is one of my pet hates, people slating gear they haven't used.

good luck finding a suitable reel jamcod

ps andy2009 aren't you the lad with the 2 mystery penn mag 2's?

will quote wat i said when u herd,

''Yes, i hav both reels ORDERED!!!''

Mind u, since then with this minor cosmetic problem av had to wait and cancel one ov them, decided to get one at a time. this means i concentrate on more important things, like fishing!!

As I said, I orderd from gerry's B4 THEY WER DUE TO B SOLD:@, so I cud make sure I get them. Anyways a was on phone to them earlier told them to cancel. This is becuse a gud local takle dealer (Mr Wood) has just got the 515 mag in, so am gonna support my local by buying them off him...:-)

Nuff said really.

TO MANY QUOTES! Me heads spinning:D

Al let off the magnetex 30, its a bigger reel, but a stand me ground where the magnets are concernd. Plus, wat puts me off them is the difference in size. A duno if uv seen this to mate, but luk at the size of the 20! Its about 3x smaller, holds boot 180yds 18lb line. Shud be called the magnetix 10!:D:D

Al still say there dirt cheap too...

And...

1)yes, im the guy wanting the mag2's ane now got them (well the 515 for now at least)!:D

2) I didnt get a mag30 cos okuma isnt know for reel quality, except for boat reels. I have used a mag30 though, sounds like a washing machine when casting:p:D
