Evening,

I am planning a change from my old pair of sl30sh's for the rough stuff and can't make my mind up what to plump for. I have had a load of sl30's and they seem to be breaking on a more regular basis of late and having swithched to penn 525's for the lighter stuff and rough ground beaches I can say I am impressed with the penn's. I have seen a few lad's on here use saltists, 535's and 7000 or 7500 abu's, the ones with ct style cages so I am just after some feedback on how you find them and how they perform. I used to fish with abu's before sl20's and 30's came out. I am stumped and was veering away from Daiwa but the saltists do look the business?
All part of getting ready and exited for the winter shore season again!

Thanks,

Graham.

outdated i know but i still love my 9000 oilite bearings this reel works and does a job anywere. but everybody to there own, actualy i have heard good reports about the shimano torioums and avet reels worth a look at .

whats wrong with your 525s for the rough stuff ?
they're more than upto the job, pretty bomb proof, i find mine can more than cope with anything the north east shoreline can throw at them.

Nothing but i would of thought the spool capacity of a 525 loaded with 25-30lb line wouldn't be very much.

i use mine with 25lb big game, (25lb big game is at least the equivalent of 30lb in most other lines) most areas i fish with heavier line (heavy rock marks) are not normally areas you need distance so capacity is not a problem. however if you are planning on fishing cliff tops the capacity may become a one.

i have a 7000 and a sealine 30shv.

The SHV has the same reel body as the slosh30, only difference is it has a speed shaft and more and better bearings which makes it cast like a penn 525, but the sealine 3SHV is more smoother.

I have loaded it with 25 - 30lb line great from the cliffs / rocks with a long shockleader. or straight through if just a gentle lob is required.

I have seen sealine 30shv's on ebay reasonably priced, if you still going to keep your slosh30's or if you intend to stick your slosh30's on ebay and get some cash in then i would go for the salist30h which are better again than the sealine 30shv that i have.

Its not worth me changing my sealine 30SHV as its better than the slosh's and does what the saltist can do, but i still might change this winter just to keep up with the tackle tarts !!.

Hope this helps and most importantly get a reel that suits you and your fishing environment !.

Saltist/Penn heavy ground reels

Saltist/Penn heavy ground reels

Just a thought, all the rough ground reels you are thinking about are on a par with each other, casting, retrieve rate, line capacity and important durability.but you can probably buy a pair of Penn 535s for the price of one Saltist 30.Always good to have a back up reel especially a matching pair of them, then your covered for all the problems you may encounter, lost line, crack offs and have a straight swap in minutes.

ive owned all three over the years... and find the saltist the best by far :o)

especially love how low it sits on the rod for a big reel.

Thanks for the feedback and help,

With regards to the penn 525's I found the line capacity a bit wanting for the heavier mono. I think I am settled on a pair of saltists from the comments, there are only two models, the 20 and 30 arent there? Just so I don't order the wrong ones! The 30 being the larger one I am after i think!

Graham.

there is another model greaham, think it is the th but aslong as you get the h model your laughing:)

on a personnel note ive had the saltists a few years and for some reason, im still a little undecided on them i opt for the newer model slosh the sha and ive got 100% confidence in both models:cool:

i have many reels beach- 3x 6500 mags-slosh 20
rocks -2x 525, 2x 535 & 7000
boat, kayak= 7000
4 the rough ground all i use is my 535's m8 u wont go wrong, i use my 525's if i want distance off the rock ledges 2 reach cleaner ground.

Saltists

Saltists

Just a thought but as Saltists are not actually made by Daiwa or in Japan at their factory,Korea as it happens, and the materials used in their manufacture are not the same quality as Daiwa Japan factory made reels, how can they justify them being at the very top end of the market price range.

This being in comparison to other similar reels of the same size and use from their competition, Penn, made in USA, etc, although I hear NOW their new reels are going to be made in China and the prices will go up accordingly.
