penn affinity

foot snapped while casting lads. gerrys and purefishing which is gerrys supplier both said you must have knocked it. i can honestly say i did no such thing. the reel snapped at the foot part which enters the whinch fitting on my rod. the line snapped and the reel went over the side. spent 2 hours next day at low tide looking for it but washed away. quoted soga to both the supplier and gerrys. both say the other should replace it so there even arguing amongst themselves. no further forward and both say never heard of the foot snapping. its obvious by the amount of people on here who have either had a problem with the surfblater or affinity that there clearly is an issue. will keep plugging away.

Surely when you cast a fixed spool, the weight is on your finger,or casting aid sounds like you forgot to flick the bale arm or you caught it during the cast putting instent load on the reel whichhas got quite a pivot to snap at the weakest point.

Never heard this myself, the only prob iv'e ever heard with a penn reel is the bail arm roller sticking n that's only due to neglect by the owner..
Gerry's normally sound as a pound, speak to gerry himself;)

penn affinity

didnt forget to open bale arm. been fishing 45 yrs so very experienced. had a few fixed spools over the years and never had a problem. gerrys have kindly offered 20% off another reel ! 2 lads who were with me will vouch for what happened.

Have these reels been snapped by pulling for a break against the reel? If so it's not surprising!!

Seen it loads of time walking back line rubbing on the pier wall.

It happened when he was pumping in a 3lb cod on the beach. Hardly too much force applied as its what the reel is designed for. cheap chinese crap!

You can always get faulty rods and reels but it's often abuse and or user error. If its a genuine fault then I would pursue a replacement under the SOGA, if the reel foot is still available have it inspected for quality.

I had a couple of surfblasters and whilst not the best quality they should stand up to light ish use. If your using them in heavy weed, riving and tearing then they will inevitably give up the ghost sooner rather than later. Like using a road car for rally driving or a road bike for mountain biking. People expect top performance at a cheap price. An affinity is a cheapish reel as fixed spools go. That's why people fork out for aero techniums and Stellas. The multiplier equivalent would be like using a tronix for rock fishing. Or using a sonic rod for tournament casting.

Bale arms on the surfblaster can snap shut unexpectedly not sure the affinity is the same. Shimanos tend to have a bale lock whereby you turn the rotor and it rotates to a stop. Much more reassuring on a decent cast.

Think your right chukka, the shimano's are a lot better build qlty, not heard that about the bail arm shutting tho m8:red:I'm a multi man myself, although I have a surfmaster with braid on for me flattie bashing with my little rod:)
