i no its a silly question but i have never used a fathon before and all i am aware of is the whole spindle is free when casting, so when its not magged how to slow it, i am thinking just tighten up the spindle is that right and just unloosen till get right cast.

cheers

just use different grades of lube mate. my favourite reel is a turbo and it's not magged but as standard has a mechanical brake, you can use this to regulate spool speed through the chuck but I just like to leave the spool free and lube up the bearings to give the spool speed I want even though it's not variable through the cast.

its the fathon 25n none lw star drag version if that helps better

fancy a penn squall 12 or 15 aswell if any one selling one

penn fathom 15

I have the fathom 15 when I first used it it seemed to be holding back so off came the side plate and adjusted the brake blocks ,run mine on twobrake blocks with a 18lb main line and a 50lb spectra braid shocker perfect for me.
also have the penn mag2 525 same set up but in my opinion the fathom 15 is better.

Brake blocks in the fathom no mags _ clicking them off is a waste of time - they need super glue or pulling out - a hard cast and they re engage

fathom 15

been casting the fathom 15 for the past 4 months with two blocks as you pointed out, the other 4 brake blocks are not glued in with super glue.
I have had no problems with the reel.

I've got the same reel and I use 2 blocks
I also opened it up to wipe off the excess blue grease cos there's a ton of it in there and I added a drop of 3in1 to the bearings
Runs much faster and smoother now

penn fathom

if you take the spool bearings out drop them in lighter fuel for around 20 mins then dry them off, add 1 drop of rocket fuel to each bearing then replace.
my fathom runs very smooth now with two brake blocks
as stated before now the reels are made up in china they seem to over do the blue grease try to get it all out then add a small drop of oil.
