hi there wondering iff any members could give me bit addvice im wanting to upgrade to a mag reel but wich is best the penn mag series ie 525 mag super or the abu mag elite series ie mag elite sports mag need addvice please :casstet: :casstet: :casstet: lol thanks gazza

well to be honest the first multi i bought was apenn 525 and i couldnt get away with it ,so sold it and bought a 6500 mag elite never had a picking of bother with it,i found the penn just a bit too free runnig and ended up nesting a lot just my view like but i cant fault any of the abus and ive got 6 of them (dont tell the wife :o )

Always used Penns. Tried Abus, but like Bri with the Penn, I couldn\'t get way with the Abu reels.

My son, Ian, started off with the 525 then moved up to the 525Mag....loves it. I\'ve had a few casts with it and it\'s a dream to use.

So there you go, gazzawill - two replies and 2 different views.....lol

I have to say from a retailers point of view, we get more problems with ABU reels than with Penns

So far, tempting fate hear, I have never had a single Penn come back faulty.

I\'m not a shore lad, only boat and a fluffchucker as you lads so nicely call us, but I would opt for a Penn

:D :D

nice one steve ,just been checking and i know where the 2p came from lol

hope you enjoy your drive up to eyemouth Tony lmao

well done everyone ;)

So as not clutter up gazzawills\' thread, I\'ve re-opened the Auction Room (but locked the \"LOT\" items) for any comments regarding the auction. Acess is now to all and it\'s just like any other forum - but please keep any new topics auction related.

i prefere the 525 as long as u set up for your type of casting other wise they can be a nightmare i use 20/50 motor oil in bearings it makes them a pussycat the old abu reels were spot on but the parts are imported these days quality not the same

Well I prefer the slosh 20, but that doesnt help.
I have had a try of both reels, and i like the penn\'s better for me, mind there are fast!

cant fault the abu rocket,
but havent used any one of my penn boat or shore multipliers
for over ten years
just had penn senator 6/0 boat multiplier seviced after being put away comming up ten years ago and apart from being a little green it had a very easy sevice all gear inside running perfectly( game fishing supplies morpeth, great price and proffesional quick service)
stiil love my rocket

Horses for courses mate, all depends on what type of fishing you do

I use my abu 6500ct for the beach (lovely and smooth/quiet)
My slosh 20/30\'s on the pier (fast retrieve / good distance)
My penn 535 off the rocks (real workhorse / heavy duty gearing)
And my abu 9000c off the rocks (this beast just reels the snags in!!)

Just to play devil\'s advocate, I\'ve noticed that nobodies mentioned any of the top class fixed spool reels eg Shimano and Shakespeare K2 power play :o ;) :D

I have a Penn 525mag and a Abu 6500 Sports Mag....the Penn is a better reel for rough stuff and casting....the abu is OK for estuary or river work.

If I had to choose only one it would be the Penn without a doubt

Jeff.
