Thinking of getting one for the winter. Anyone got one and have an opinion? Open to suggestions for an alternative £100ish price range.

Intend to use on the rocks into the kelp with braid. Using a cheaper reel at the moment but it wont last long. I'm almost 100% converted to braid on F/S reels - have used multi's for a long time.

Thanks in advance.

I use the 8000 as well liked it that much I bought a spare. I e started using a breakaway thumb button with it as well.

Hi, I,ve been looking at the thumb buttons. Can you tell me if they are any good, Cheers, Bob:)

I had two and sold them, some like them but they do take a bit of getting used to.you can put them on the side of the blank if there a bit tight under the spool,i started using a gardner spod/casting glove and find that much better.you can get them in right or left hand

if u r familiar with multipliers , then the thumb button merely replicates the release of the thumb to let the spool go without the 'pain' on ur finger. theres also the cannon which is pricier but since i dont use it myself i cant comment. thumb button is well worth the 2 quid. imo.

I think they are class. They do take a bit of getting used to though. It's gave me a lot more confidence to try and bend the rod. Especially with the braid on. And for about 2 quid it's worth a try. Just make sure your drag is locked or your line will burn it.

Apart from the difference in price between the cannon £12.00 and the thumb button£2.25.in the G.A.C Catalogue.is there anything different about them. I assume they can be used on a fixed reel reel setup If not please excuse my lack of knowledge on this subject. Bob: confused:

They are similar but different. Ha ha. The thumb button goes on the back of ya rod so when you cast the action is like using a multi. The cannon sits on the front and holds the line similar to where you would hold the line with ya finger. They are both for fixed spool reels.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for that NOOO, Bob:)

I have 2 8000's and they seem fine. Tried the cannon but didn't like it. Seemed to lose feel on the cast. Gone back to a finger stall (yuki) for long casting but don't bother for shorter range work.
