Pennel rigs

Do those of you who use pennels use a smaller hook than the main one?

Personally, I use 2 the same size. My reasoning being the fish could be hooked on any hook, so if you use a smaller top hook, you may as well be using 2 smaller hooks.

I use 2 4/0's so I know that which ever hook is attached to the fish, I don't have to take it as easy, as I would using a smaller hook.

Your thoughts?

davy i agree with you mate i always use the same size hooks on my rigs.:thumbup:

My mate Geordie (very good angler) says that pennel rigs are cruel. Not sure why, never asked him. I use them like sometimes.

Davy I always use the same size hooks too mate.

Depending on where I fish my pennels are either both 4/0s or both 2/0s.

usually have 5/0 sakuma manta extra as main hook and a 4/0 kamasan uptide as top hook, depends on where and what im fishin for tho

Sounds reasonable.. dont think it should be a problem though cos i never catch fish lol

8/0 on the bottom & 6/0 at the top just to hold the mackeral fillet up.

i always use a 3/0 botom hook and 3/0 top hook m8 (varivas big mouths)
