petrol price drop

Not too good if you own a Diesel car though, that is a hell of a gap between the two now.

Jim.

i agree jim its getting stupid, i remember when diesel was the cheaper fuel and thats why everbody went out and bought them. good job i have a pertol car now:D

it,s about time these oil companys are making a fortune
every joe bloggs can hardy afford to run his car

about bloody time

Light crude is down to the price it was 2 years ago.

boils my **** somewhat that when the price of crude goes up, the retail prices of petrol goes up the same day almost, even though it'll be petrol thats made from crude that was purchased months before, yet when the price comes takes them ages to to bring it back down again and never by the same percentage as the drop in crude

Amazes me that monopolies and cartels in any industry are illegal, and price fixing is illegal, but every government tugs its forelock to OPEC which is a cartel that fixes prices.

work that one out

diesel owners are to blame for the high price of diesel, its a case of supply and demand. More tightarses bought tractor engined diesels however diesel refining capacity has never been increased, therefore they charge a higher price for it. Simple economics!

So while yous are all driving your tractor powered tanks spewing out carcinogens consider buying a car that uses proper fuel!!

48mpg around the doors and 61 on a run in my 2.0 ltr D car :) but they right, it costs me an extra 14p a ltr to fill her up.

Boat gets 5mpg around the Tyne and 5mpg on a run :)

and what did you tell me your car did to the gallon Ian? I have never heard a dafter statement in my life than that mind.

Jim.

my car about 30 to the gallon. My next one will probably do less. Do i care? No as the cost of fuel is only a tiny proportion of the cost of running a car after purchase cost, depreciation, tax, insurance, maintainance etc.

i probably spend about 1200 quid a year on fuel, however due to the labour goverments stupid tax rules and the economic climate the cat has lost about 8000 quid in value in 18 months. i worry more about that than the fuel costs.

At least though when im doing 30mpg im not spewing out black smoke and carcinogens into the atmosphere.

The fact is very true, too many people drive diesels and not enough diesel is produced hence the cost is high!!

There is no black smoke comes out of the back of my car when it is doing thirty either Ian, if there was it wouldn't pass an MOT. It hasn't had one yet but when I take it in March it will sail through, without any need for adjustment.

The reason that Diesel is more expensive, is the government saw yet another easy target and increased the tax quite a bit more than petrol a few years ago. If you remember before that, diesel was always cheaper than petrol.

Jim.

yes it was and that was because far fewer people drove diesels. plenty of modern diesels (vw's especially) spew out a big cloud of smoke when the driver puts their foot down

What does TDI stand for?

lots of discussion on the black smoked thing here
well if it is a discussion on a forum it must be true ;) and we are all chavs who leave line and rubbish everywhere and take bags of fish to waste while fishing wearing our burberry caps :D cause I have read that on forums too. Yes its true that older diesal engines may well produce black smoke but the newer engines are much more efficient.

I drive a 1.8 focus zetec TDI and pay £120 a year road tax because of the low emissions. Petrol version would cost £170 due its emissions. So you saying the DVLA have got it wrong? :D

low carbon dioxide emissions, not low emissions. its a known fact that diesels spew out all sorts of stuff that is really bad for your health. Tax is not based on these other things but only co2 emissions. The rationale behind this tax (climate change) is also highly dubious. Personally i believe its a myth.

Its not the DVLA that have got its wrong, its the government and their quest to get more and more tax from the motorist. Tax for my car is going up to £300 next year. Thats wrong! they are taxing me on something i already own, they moved the goal posts after i bought the car. Also because the tax is going up my car is loosing value so i am shafted both ways, keep the car and pay more tax, or sell the car and loose more money because of the tax. Hardly fair is it??

What makes me laugh is that my 1978 Porsche gets better mpg, is cheaper to tax, insure, more reliable and cheaper on parts than my 2001 Zafira!

I just bought a 3.0TDI and it does 30mpg when driven properly. Do I feel guilty? Do I **** when the government are allowing the Kingsnorth power station which is the first of seven coal power stations that are queuing to be given the go ahead. The first for 30 years I believe. The coal is mostl likely to be imported from Russia and Poland to produce
cheap energy and charge obsene rates for it.........while we are being urged to turn offthe TV at the set to save the stand by LED from destroying the planet.

If it's good enough for Gordon, it's good enough for me!
