any good suggestions regarding where i can buy 6 9 and 12 inch wire pike traces in 40lb b/s wire:question:

in the past i have always knotted the wire but it always looks messy and untidy

i had thought of crimping my own,but as i only go once per year,it hardly seems worth it:exclam:

Dead easy to make your own Dunk, I wouldnt trust shop-bought traces.

only thing i would add is that i would put a shrinkable sleeve over the twisted wire to keep it in place:question:

That`s just personal preference mate....some people like to cover the twists, some dont bother. Covering them doesnt do any harm, at any rate

Try making your traces about 18" to prevent bite offs, 6" is way too short. If your going to buy shop bought ones by fox or prowla. But it is cheaper in the long run to buy hooks, wire, crimps and pliers.
I always crimp the bottom treble and swivel then twist the top treble.
Another good pointer is the treble hook gap must be proportional to your chosen bait size. It's no good having a big gap on a spray ad you can deep hook the pike easier.

aye mate you have a couple of good points 6 inch is very short and could lead to a bite off, but it aint happened yet the reason for 6 inch is i deadbait from a float on top of reeds. depending how they have grown,governs the trace length,also if the fish are feeding in clear water 18 inch is fine

also i tend to use only 1 treble,although i can see how double hooks give better bait presentation

im going with the rig building technique in pikers video

kiss of death hereive been quite successful in catching,but rigs been a bit rough and ready,want to tidy them up

You just never know when a lump will come along and if you lose it to a 6" trace you will kick yourself, if your float fishing like you mentioned you could always fit an up trace?
I mostly catch jacks up to 8 pound, but I've had a few lumps so you must prepare for them. Have the right line, good traces, knots etc. I mainly make my own from 40 pound carboflex wire with matched crimps, I used to put the covers on to neaten up and even use bait flags to identify the barb on the treble, ideal when it's dark.

I'd settle for a 17 pounder tomorrow.

I keep my rigs very simple and mostly deadbait. I use a running ledger with 2-3 0z weights set on alarms and swingers.
Secondly I use a float rig from the boat, I use a fox cigar type float after stop not and bead to determine the depth then a sinker attached to the trace matched to the float. The trace will be 18" and without uptrace as this is a deadbait rig.
I've also used a paternoster, This can be finnicky to settle if your ledgering but will work. This consists of a sunken float (any float really that's buoyant enough) this can be set with stop not or bead or some connect onto the uptrace swivel. Then you have a helicopter rig with uptrace and a small snap tackle can be used as the up trace protects the main line. There must be some line attached to the helicopter and a lead to keep the rig taught. For bite indication I use front alarm and rear swinger with a tightish line.
