Piking again !!

Well off we went again over the border this morning , I'd already bought my currency but my mate had to get his at border control , the exchange rate just gets worse :rolleyes:

Our passports went under close observation but the border guard let us on our merry way ,so off to Loch ....... we went :D:D

A great day all told with at least a dozen runs between us ,biggest Pike was around the 5lb mark but we did get a couple of much better fish that didn't make it to the bank for one reason and another .

The strangest run of the day....... Off goes my mate Steves alarm , screaming off line ,he pulled into a good weight as we did earlier , it put a good bend in his rod ,as I looked on I saw something break the surface a way out ,thinking it was a good pike I ran over ,then I realised it was a duck ............ not a duck but a Goosander unfortunately hooked ...Steve had no option but to try and reel it in .
Upshot was that it was released fit and well ,obviously checked over but more than fit enough to scoot off , both of us relieved that it was hooked only lightly in the back and not anywhere else .

Anyway ,a great day all told with a good few Pike ,shame we had to leave as the wind was getting evil and was forcast to hit 90 MPH by 4 pm .

im loving the pike reports steve ,we used to fish for them at bolam lake when i was a lad, re the duck i had a sea gull off castle rocks in the summer & its HORRIBLE like yours it flew away ok .ill keep my fingers crossed you get a doubler next time

Nice one steve well done mate sounds like an enjoyable session was going to have a go this weekend aswell but the wind forcast has made me wait and see what happens during the week.

"Off to Loch ..... we went :D:D"

You're turning into a proper piker now Steve , ;) When you catch that big one and post pics , you will have to remember to photoshop the background so it looks like you were fishing off shields pier :) otherwise next time you go there will be 15 bivvys in your swim :D
Glad you are enjoying it , but be careful , it's addictive !

I've had a goosander on loch ken a few years ago too, fortunately for it it didn't stay hooked.

Doesn't matter if you're catching bign's or not, if you're getting runs and a few jacks here and there it's a good session in my eyes.
