pilot pier advise

Due to losing a lot of gear when i first started fishing a few years ago this put me off fishing the pilot so i left it for the macky in the summer, can any one give some advise on which side to fish any maybe how far out without losing gear as much, i know about pulley rigs and rotten bottoms and so on but would really like to bait fish it a bit more so any pointers would be great, I've also been looking at braid for my spare spool for the occasion to, thanks lads

The right hand side you wont loose your gear,

it's only worth fishing the pilot when everywhere else is unfishable the right hand side is not very productive casting into the channel of the end is ok but the rest is hard ground or mixed but that's where the fish are alter your distance to find the fish.
PS hope that braid is for a fixed spool not a multiplier.

I fished the red light recently and dreaded it because of the tackle loss but had to go as everywhere else was to rough.
I was pleasantly surprised when i got on the pier to find it virtually snagless.
I walk to the end and when you look out to sea look at the red and green bouys. Aim your cast out between these and cast as far as you can.
There was a rope or something which snagged a lot last year but it seems to have gone. I used a rotten bottom on a clipped down rig.
You can fish inside towards the docks but this i really a whitie hotspot.

Thats the exact answer i was looking for lol, thanks lads may have a fish of it after the tides pick up again and regarding the braid it would be for my fixed spool Penn affinity but not sure what size braid

i dont see any attraction to this mark other than when the sea is massive, and the swell is pussing into the channel.
i get the feeling most people fish there because of easy access, but there is other marks to fish just as easy or easier, there is some good ground to be fished there but the people who generally fish it are looking for the clean ground which is a waste in my eyes.
as mentioned before the rough stuff is where ya wanna be on the left as ya walk on.
theres a good saying people use

"if ya not loosing gear your in the wrong place"

if its cod ya wanting then theres never been a truer word spoken,
my advise if its clean ground pier fishing ya want stick with middleton or even the banjo

some lads do very well on there but they fish the right conditions fishing the good ground

you,ll find that this time of year the cod will move on to the soft ground before leaving to spawn.

i havnt cought enuff fish on either ground to know for myself.
