Pirking outfit

I know a lot of you on here like pirking on light weight outfits, but can I have your thoughts on this:

I currently have a 20lb Daiwa Vulcan X rod and a 20-40lb Penn Senator Rod. These are matched up with an Okuma Magda and a Penn Longbeach respectively. The Vulcan X is fun for jelly work in shallowish water (but annoyingly the reel seat is a REALLY BAD fit for the Okuma reel), and the Penn is OK for pirking but I find that a 1lb pirk is it\'s limit and it gets a bit floppy in deaper depths of water (say 150ft plus).

In short I thinking about a 50lb 7ft Ugly Stick Elite and a Okuma Titus TI-20L for pirking between 1 and 1.5lb of chrome + muppets with 40lb braid. Never know, at some point it may see action in Norway!

Like I say, thoughts on this combo would be appreciated.

PIRKING GEAR IS GETTING LIGHTER THESE DAYS NOT HEAVIER IF YOU CAN PUMP 1.5 IB OF PERK ALL DAY ON A 50 CLASS OUTFIT ILE PAY FOR A TRIP OUT FOR YOU SO WE CAN HAVE A LAUGH.A 20 TO 30 CLASS WITH 325 PENN IS GOOD ENOUGH,COS9 OUT OF 10 TIMES U GO DOWN A FEW RIPS AND IF YOU DONT GET A FISH YOU MIGHT AS WELL PULL YOUR GEAR UP AND DROP BACK IN IF YOUR STILL ON THE WRECK. THIS IS MY VIEW ANY WAY HOPE IT HELPS

I usually use a 1lb pirk, but I want something that can manage 1.5lb just while the tide is running strong.

I\'ve started favouring using large jellies on a hopper rig and 12oz of lead which is a lot more entertaining (and less knackering). Seem to pick up the better fish as well. I\'d just be using the heavy rod for a couple of hours during the run or over very snaggy wrecks (most of them). ;)
 
Mike, my firsy boat reel was an Okuma Titus T15L, the braid kept getting wrapped around the level wind, might of just been me, but I bought a Shimano TLD20 - much much better! :D

EDIT: I\'m also told they are great for pulling in doublers, but can\'t confirm - YET ;)

Hi there,

I use a Grey\'s Pirker and a Penn 330GTI with 50lbs braid....always worked with me. Rod has a great action to it.

I use a shimano antares 20 - 30lb class and a penn 225 ld.
(when i remember it keith lol)

Anyway i have just started using pirks neva caught oot on one YET and i mean YET.

your right about the jellys .if the tide is ripping i use small baits and a pound of lead . two 6,0 daylights or hokkis.when the tide slows down then i like to rip also on the slack and the first 30 minutes of the flood i hope this helps you mike. on small tide if the wind and tide are right u can rip all day
the lads who fish all the jfk all the time only ever use two daylights but in the same respect they have to be present propley

Ive got the best pirk mold ever (mk 6) never fails to catch at any state of the tide !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you dan aford shimano tld the two speed ones they are good and can definatly pull up doubles not that i have one ,but i struggled with a 17 pounder and my mate pulled a 23 pounder in and made it look like he was pulling in a 6 oz fish with no lead attached. wish i could afford one.
