Pirks - Help!

Lads - I am after a few tips when rigging pirks with singles. I have made a batch of great pirks up, but havent rigged with singles before. I am using 2mm net line and a bit of tubing to stop the line wearing around the drilled eye.

The problem I have is the hooks are further from the pirk than when using a split ring and treble. Will the fish get the hook?? I have attached picture. The hook eye is around 1inch to 2inch off the bottom of pirk. Picture attached.

I make an assist hook for my home made my jiggers, I use the outer casing from some twin core wire, a short length of 45lb line and a hook. I attach the head end to the bottom of the trace so that the hook lies along the flank of the Jigger. They seem to work OK fished at the bottom of a trace of Hokias or with a shad.

The ones in the picture are 6oz with 4.0 hooks.

My assist hooks are rigged similar way but because I use 30lb rotton bottom on the Lead, I make my assists longer to hang from the Rig bottom so that if I lose the Lead, I might keep the Hook.

This is the one I use;

FISH SHAPED SMALL PIRK LEAD MOULD 75gr to 190 gr | eBay

But there are plenty of others on Fleabay, just search Pirk mould.

I spray them up with Pound shop spray paint. They only last an hour or so being bounced them around on hard ground, but any I haven't lost just get recast. They are ideal if you have a cheap supply of lead and the time to make them.

Here's one I caught yesterday, before rain stopped play.

If you look on Facebook and go to "Budget Moulds" page he does one about 12oz. Mine seems to be more like 13oz and is really good. About £10 i think. Its my buddy Ron who lives in Stockton.
