Hi Guys,

I normally get off a couple of times a year up north (Hartlepool or whitby), as I normally fish the South Coast. We don't fishing pirks down south, so after a few tips on pirks as going to make some up. I've got some shop bought norweign mirror pirks. Do home made pirks work as well the nice shop bought ones? Thinking of bending some 15mm chrome pipe into a gentle curve and then filling with lead.

Does anyone have some proven homemade designs that work?

Thanks and appreciate your tips.

Chrome pipe works, I wouldn't even bother bending it.

You could even use plain pipe and apply silver foil tape so save a pennies.

When you make your pirks, before you pour the lead, insert a wire loop with a 5 0r 6/0 hook attached at one end, and a loop of wire at the other end. much quicker and easier than drilling holes and attaching split rings etc:
If you're using braid main line, you can get away with using lighter pirks.

Thanks guys. Have you ever used the 'Hartlepool Ripper' designs, they have 4 single hooks hanging on them and seem to be made in a lead mould?

Also I was thinking about rigging the pirk with a single hook and jellie worm - anyone tried this?

instead of buying pipe, buy a pirk mould.
Once you have the mould you can make as many as you like.
Where as with pipe you need to keep buying it.
You can add whichever hook set up you prefer. (treble, single, gummi mak hook, assit hooks)

You can cover them in chrome tape or any colour really.
Powder coat them or spray them.
You can still catch on them when they're dull.
Fish go after the movement and vibration.
You normally lose them to the wreck after a few drops anyway.
