pollack off lower tyne

Cracking report, pier looks nice and clean as well
thats cos its not a pier for fishing not allowed, but they [authoroties]turn a blind eye now and again when the gates are locked, but when folks putting threads and pics like this on and i gaurantee itl end up in the papers reports ect,the pier will end up a sesspit like the others and theyl stop turning a blind eye now and again it will get stopped totally,i can see it coming, tight lines lads plum:cool:

There where 2 lads fishing on the peir yesterday off the front out of site of the watchy for ages then he chased them then 2 more came and done it again he then moved them then it happened a 3rd time and I think he just left them as he would be shutting the pier

No doubt sooner or later,he'll be threatened or given a gobfull off one
of the crackerjacks, just for doing his job,and then the $hit will really
hit the fan...Seen it happen elsewhere.:(

Was on shields today at blocks and hooked Pollack about 7lb. Dropped on pull up. Thanks for info lads gave me the push to go today.

Mick.

ne bother thats what it's all about. unlucky on the lost fish though! plenty big ones kicking about atm fattening up on all the bait fish

Superb fish I'm green with envy. Anyone who has had some experience of fishing for bigger pollock will understand just how scarily powerful these fish are. I also use 30lb mainline and 40lb hooklengths whilst fishing for them in Scotland. I've seen rods and line snapped by the first couple of runs. There are a few lads who fish for them and use 60lb braid on their spinning rods and set the drag tight to stop them getting near the bottom. As soon as your line touches the rocks on or near the bottom it's game over. I've solely concentrated on cod for years but as soon as I hooked my first decent pollock on light gear I became addicted. Top fishing lads, I'm sure there will be a double from you's if you persevere, just remember you'll probably lose more than you'll land!!

Spot on Sean.

The power they have is unbelievable. I've seen rods smashed by them over the mull and I've hooked two myself that I couldn't do a thing with. One thing though, its a totally different world floatfishing for them with live launce from a boat over the Mull. You can see the launce swimming in the clear water, then you just see this flash and its fish on - fantastic fishing.

Great session lads as I said in the other post by Scotty.
By the way, don't ask for the other post to be deleted, let people make up their own minds who the numptys are;)

Nice catch ... 3 fish swimming round with tackle in their mouths though should tell you to check your tackle is up to the job ... from a conservation point of view ... I know it happens occasionally but 3x in one session asks for a bit of analysis of rod and reel power line strength etc... only saying positively before anyone jumps ;)

don't think the lads ever expected the strength and power these fighting fit pollock have
even the experienced anglers on this site will tell you the same story
its a shame there are fish that that had hooks in them (the hooks should rot quite quick)
as ozzy says lesson learned on setting drag on reels etc
well done on the amazing local pollock sport

yeah exactly, cheers.

watersedge, to be honest we only went for some makky, we didn't think there was gunna be fish that big. we just used what we had available. i got snapped off by a big fish, so i must stop fishing? we've had alot of criticizm for basically just catching some fish. i know where you're coming from though, we know for next time. but for the sake of next time i'll just post a pic of the fish on my kitchen bench with no info to save the hassle

nice one lads. some cracking fish. dont expect that from the pier all the time though as those bigger pollock are few and far between. but put in the hours and you will be rewarded like you have been.
