are pollock a year round fish or just a summer species from the shore?

seems to be a lot less of em inshore in the winter in experience

probaly more about in summer when weather is settled they have big eyes and are predators ,in the winter months the water will probaly be to cloudy for them just my own thoughts but what do i know

They move offshore during the winter, more or less returning to the same place year in year out. September/October can produce some big fish as they try to put on weight for the winter period.

Thats why its best to put them back if you do catch them, as they are resident fish, and once they\'re gone, they\'re gone, you only have to look at the Isle of Whithorn and Burrow head for the evidence.

going off the opens that i attend and get the results from, which 99% take place during the winter, it would appear that there are a certain amount of pollck all through the year. Even in the matches from loacl piers throughout the winter some one invariably catches a pollock and one of the biggest i photographed a few years ago was taken during the winter. The ones that are taken during the winter all tend to be of a decent size, whereas there are a lot more but smaller during the summer.
