Poor fishing in the open today

By all accounts the weigh in has seen very little. It was very hard work and the biggest fish I have heard of is only 3lb. Decent enough sea but very few cod, the usual flatties and whities though.

Results thus far:

550 fished

60 prizes on the prize table, only 55 weighed in! :o

Heaviest fish results

1st Tony Fishwick - Cod, 3lb 8oz
2nd Ian Peacock - Cod, 3lb 2oz
3rd Danny Swan - Cod, 3lb 1oz

Thats £1500 quid for 3 and half pounds of fish.......shocking!!!

fished the pipe down the target, did'nt spy one fish amongst the lot of us

any one know where the fish came from, heard rumours from the chems and green wall?

My mate who is a very very good angler blanked.

I think it says it all about the fishing situation at the moment.

Well done to everyone who took part guys.

Me and Phil fished the cliffs at Hill 60 last night. Not a single bite for 3 hours so went home and saved the bait. Didn't think there'd be much caught in the open after seeing how bad it was last night.

Fished southern end of horden, hardly anything all day, guys either side of me each had a whity, one just over and one just under size.

Comin form Leeds, had high hopes. Oh well. Shame.

Fished the beach at dawdon, lads all along the shore from north to south no more than 20 yards apart not one sized fish, lad next to me had 4 undersized all returned very carefully so well done mate, best of luck next year lads. .

I feel sorry for the people that fished today when there wasn't many fish about, especially those that travelled a good distance to take part. I suppose it's the luck of the draw really, it's happened to us all at some time or another. I can well imagine that Seaham club will be a bit dissapointed with the weigh in, especially with it being a reorganised comp, nothing they can do about it though, that is the way our sport sometimes is.

One good thing that might have come from today, after reading Mickey's post about getting a reel for a small flounder. A few people may have caught a fish today that maybe wouldn't have got them a prize if there had been a big weigh in. Lets hope it gave some people a big lift and gets them to join a few more of the open comps in future.

Jim.
