Well i gave up winter shore fishing 3 years ago and never looked back, the start of this season Oct etc was almost tempting me to have a cast with the good catch reports but since around the 1st week in December i cant say i ahve seen or heard anything that has spurred me on to wet a line, the reports have been shocking.

Pics of 1 flat fish or 1 codling just dont cut it, few years ago a bad night was 3 size codling and a few smaller stuff now anything is a good result.

Flat seas, sandeel's, weather??? more like very little that swims left to catch, hope you lot have a better last few weeks of the season.
 
Agree Northeast1 that's why I packed the shore fishing in a few years ago, when I did get back into my fishing it's from a yak!! Really surprised when I started the number of fish you can catch not far from the shore. Looking forward to things pickin up over next few weeks
 
I'm thinking along the same lines as you Richie, It just doesn't seem worth the effort. I've fished from the shore all my life, and this year seems the worst. I've only fished 2 opens this winter, just can't get motivated, all I want to do is put the shore rod away till September, and get out in the boat.:(
 
I've been beach fishing once this year and blanked, to be honest i've got no interest, as you say the reports are a bit poor. :(. But full marks to all those who try.:)

Dear me - I almost feel I have to counter against the disenchanted boaties in this thread and say that I still enjoy heading out onto the beaches/rocks :D

no doubt about it the catch rates are infinitely less but getting out for me in the winter is more about getting out of the house and trying to catch a few fish or learning new places...there's fish to be had you just have to find 'em!

I walked a mile today, stuck it out for 4 hours on a windswept Northumberland rock mark for not even a bite! but if I'd stayed in all I'd a
have done is sit and wish my day away hoping spring would come that little bit quicker :D

fished the match today at beadnell, not a sniff.

waded onto an island, fishing into deep kelpy water, and nothing.

then onto dell point, and the same.


still enjoyed getting out.

Need to lose the Cod blinkers on days like today...got it all wrong and should have gone flattie bashing!

Annoying thing is we were only half a mile from where the winning bag was caught! :D
 
Well done to the lads who go out in all weathers for little or no return. My bones are getting far too old for this winter melarky now !!!!

All I do is concentrate all my fishing efforts into fishing over in Luce Bay/MOG during the summer. We open our caravan on the Clashwhannon site about mid March and from May till October spend weeks at a time over there. Its great when you can target your species off the shore. Just a bit local knowledge and you can target pollack or wrasse or mullet or LSDs or conger or bass or smothound (need peeler for them) or tope. If anyone is going over for a trip and does not know the area I can give you a few pointers.

where was the heaviest fish from matey?
 
The season started off great. Sept till ealy December lots of cod about, big bags of medium sized fish. True the season has tailed off early this year but had great autumn. Sport nearly always tails off to virtually nothing in January it just happened a little earlier this year.
 
I am sure the seasons have moved 1 month forward, we now seen to get everything 4+ weeks sooner.The bush i have in my garden should get new leafs in March/April ll the books say, try new buds showing this week and ready to oen in less than 10 days.
 
Got to agree still mind with a few posts that good on the lads that get out, I suppose it's always great to catch but just getting out and fishing new marks etc is what it's all about, don't think I will be going back to it but I did start bass fishing from rock marks etc last year and plan to further that this year when I'm not out on the yak.
I always read the shore reports and it appeared very encouraging early on but just seems to have fallen away...... Neil
 
I must of lost my love for shore winter fishing as i really cant see the point in being cold, sat on a damp rock or beach casting ££'s into the water for nothing, much rather be in the house with a dvd or at the pub watching a match n a pint or a million other things than fishing just to get out the house.

Soon be spring thou, pollack, bass, wrasse fishing up Scotland, macky bashing pier and wrecking on the boats..ow along with trout fishing in the lakes...bliss.
 
my last club match is in march but i feel like i will end my winter season on wednesday night, and look forward to summer with the reddies.....

For the record I think I only lost about £2.7333327777recurring yesterday ;)
