Shore fishing still does it for me Richie. Standing on my favourite rough ground beach with a nice lift on holding the rod then nod, nod, the fish is there, wind down and wait then another bite and strike, a lovely white bellied codling coming in through the surf! September was the best month off the shore for me averaging between four and six codling a session when the sea was running, saying that I had an 8lb'er last month and a few over 6 in between.
I think is splits the seasons fantasticaly and when the boat weather is a no go it's off to chuck a bit of fluff at Sweethope or Chatton!

All the seasons covered with fishing of some sort!

i am definitely on Richie's side with this thread, the fishing is crap at the moment just like last winter and the winter before, it really isn't worth the bother, put it this way, during the summer months in gin clear water i like to perk with daylights off the end of the heugh, last year between may and September and in dead calm seas i caught more cod on light spinning gear than i did with my heavy gear,expensive bait and floatation suit than i did during the whole of last winter, [ok the cod where only between 1and2 lbs but cod never the less ] also using the same method i managed 63 coalie in one session up to 1 and half lbs and during the rest of the summer numerous mackerel, whiting,flatties, and 3 twaits shads to 2 lb s all on light gear, great fun ,for me the cod winter season is just too over hyped, sesh after sesh with nothing to show for it,its demoralising, roll on the summer.

For the amount of time, effort and money put into winter fishing, the results for me aint worth it.
Hats off to the the lads that persist, and still produce the goods though.
A days kayak fishing in the sun, in say May will produce more cod for me than the whole winter season, going on the last 2 years.
Agree that the fishing is generally starting earlier and ending earlier (Sept-Dec), still always the chance of a biggie though, for those that put the effort in to Jan, Feb, Mar.
