alreet lads since starting to fish the tyne areas up the river ive come across a few fish that have been poorly, wounds of gashes on the back ,abseses on the mouths etc and very deformed ones also . last night a pulls in a whiting a 1lb and it had a hole in its back the size of a pingpong ball ya cud see its backbone almost but healing , didnt seem to bother it when it swam off ,not sure if its a safe haven for the wounded fish vetrans like that have had bad luck in the nets etc but surely theres sommit not reet

anyone else noticed this or anywhere else

I havent noticed and fish the tyne quite a bit..but do notice a lot of dead fish floating along but thats probably due people throwing deep hooked fish back

Seals perhaps? I saw one at the walkway a couple of weeks ago!

Pulled in a ting from hebburn marina, great big poppy out eye balls, but was covered with a grey film, dont know how it managed to see anything tho

iv also seen alot of ill fish out the tyne, loads of them with an eye missing, deformed body parts, some covered in a wierd white slime. some without tails, and some of the flatties are covered tip to tail with hundreds of what look like lice, not sure if thats normal??? only just recently been catching so many ill ones. wierd

i am no scientist. however could this observations be a direct result of a delayed winter allowing certain parasites / symbiotes to flourish ? should the EA be notifies in case this is a subject of interest?

Thing is ya divn't nar what s**te ya eating once it's filleted and covered in batter, for all ya nar they could be lots of deformed ones caught by trawlers.

think a lot of the injuries are due to the seals and the cormorants

was a seal about at st peters last week

there a cormorant that seem to have set up residence at the coptorne
goes up and down the channel gets a flattie with every dive, but just seems to hack at the larger fish and then let them go
