Port Carlisle 25/4/11

Decided on another trip across to port Carlisle the tide was much smaller this time so was unsure if it would fish as good. Arrived about 3 o'clock but sat in the car for an hour as the tide was still way out. Started fishing about 4 o'clock with the water still as far out as when I arrived, I wasn't very confident. Baited up a 2 hook flapper with crab and cast out, within 30 seconds a bite which resulted in a 1lb flounder, the next few casts drew a blank, still no sign of the tide moving, then the bore came very small today more like bubbling water than the wave like bore last week when I was here. As soon as the bore past as happened last week the fish arrived, double shots most casts ended up with 27 flounders, a variety of sizes from abot 6 oz to about 1lb 8oz the best one measured 43 cm. It was good sport on light gear, just using spinning rods an 3 oz grips. I was very surprised there was only one other person fishing an old bloke with his grandson, he had 5 flounders out on garden worm of all things.
The tide today was unbelievably small the water at it's highest was about 30 meters from the grassy bank, thankfully it made no difference to the fishing. Back in the car now, get my head down for a few hours then fish first light in the morning before heading back home.
