Have to get Deano out and have a meet, quite local for me :D:D Not had a big ray from there yet either but even the smaller ones give a decent account of themselves.
Dont think you can beat it when a smoothie hits the bait and tries to pull your rod down the beach though.

Definitely looking forward to it, only prob is i will be living in Canada & Ontario lake doesn't have the type of fish i want. Only a couple more fishing sessions left for me & it would be nice to catch something decent as i have done a lot of blanking lately.

Not long to go now, the season starts April 6 n 7th for me up at Crinnen with another skate fishing party organized by Davem with onyermarks.

Here's one I prepared earlier

belter mate a seen that boat going out a few mornings with partys on when we was up the mull summer gone we was on the east tarbet pitched up whilst fishing

Had a bad year last year due to close breavment ,making up for it this year ,1st trip in april up to oban and loch etive for a week even got myself a couple of new rods looking forward to a break

Roll on the summer and the Mull of Galloway. It is extremely hard to blank there if you know the marks. The exception being lure fishing for bass !!!!!! Hopefully you will be getting a few reports posted from me when we take up our summer residence in Drummore.

Hope all you other anglers have a decent summer season as well

John

For Dogfish - go to most S/W Scottish marks throw out ANY fishy bait - Hey Presto...Lesser Spotted Dogfish :)

I was catching them in Wales the other year on a flattie rod - great fun

luce bay is the best place i have fished up the west coast.

if you go up try dusk for pollock, fish during the night for doggies, conger and bull huss.first light for mackeral and pollock, during the day for wrasse and pollock.

I spend alot of time up the west coast and normally go from friday until monday.

alot of the marks have gullies which at low water empty, i get some net bags and fill them with macky and a brick and throw them in the gully, when the tide comes in it is unbelivable on how many fish swim in the gully to feed on the macky and some times you get mullet which are impossible to hook but good fun trying.

best bait rag, crab, macky and sandeel.

you will need loads of sinkers when fishing for wrasse.

Try and get hold of some old spark plugs or nuts/bolts for weights and fish on a rotten bottom. All I use is spinning gear from the shore for pollack/wrasse/bass

just reading this thread has got me itching to get the summer gear out, hopefully il get a few more smoothounds from holderness way and i really want to get my first thornback.

Im going to be switching to braid for the first time this year for the trips to the mull, im sure i will be asking for advice closer to the time. Id like to catch a mullet this year too, i know there are a few that come from drummore harbour each year so i will be giving that a go. Cant wait :)
