positive fishing talk

just reading this thread has got me itching to get the summer gear out, hopefully il get a few more smoothounds from holderness way and i really want to get my first thornback.

Im going to be switching to braid for the first time this year for the trips to the mull, im sure i will be asking for advice closer to the time. Id like to catch a mullet this year too, i know there are a few that come from drummore harbour each year so i will be giving that a go. Cant wait :)

Here is the proof Phil,a Drummore harbour mullet.

We were prebaiting with bread for a few days beforehand. In the picture my mates son is holding the fish. My mate Pete got snapped off and I missed two bites. They really are crafty so and sos !!!! I have caught them from all round the Med and in Australia but have never caught a UK one YET

when we was up that way we called in snatchers site no life about so we called into that harbour seen 2 lads fishing for them i would love to catch one of them sly species ;) but the tactics are very different to normal fishing these lads was bottom fishing but been told a bubble float works in settled areas and small hooks too

We were using 12' float rods, spinning reel loaded with 5/6 lb mono, quill float and size 8 hook. Going to try freelined bread this summer at the harbour mouth.

My mate Gaverick had on off cairnryan pier last year on freelined bread, we where fishing for other species and saw them swimming about so decided to have a go. We both hooked into a few but they where so lightly hooked they just got off after a few seconds of rod bending action :) We only managed to land 1 but it was well worth the effort.

Looking forward to getting a few more bass on lures, get some pollock and some wrasse too. Hate this bit of the year though when the cod have gone and the summer species aren't here yet. Probably have a few trips for trout on the fly from next month.

john, cant wait i will be up fancy trying for bass on the fly
and them mullet in front of the camp site lol

Never fished for them myself in Stranraer yet but seen the local lads fishing for them/catching them by the new marina in the harbour

They were groundbaiting with bread and using light floatfishing gear. I was watching them for about 30 minutes in which time they caught and released 3 mullet. Took this sequence of photos at the time
