Just a question for the mind! How many Warriors are for sale on the internet, magazines and the likes versus the predator 160 they've released the 165 in march 07 which is one of the safest small fishing boats on the market today with its "life ring " of bouyancy.

Hi Stu,
Depends on what you want and feel comfortable in. comparing like for like size wise they are very similar. Warrior has just updated the hull design from the one they were using from the 70's. Predator 160 was already a leading edge hull design similar to the RNLI ribs. The latest Predator 165 has further improved the hull design to give more stability at anchor and an even better ride than the 160. Plus it has loads of build in buoyancy and what they call a "Lifering" round the inboard side under the gunnel. Both go like stink with a 60 - 80 hp o/b. John and Liam from Sunderland Marina have just took delivery of a Predator 160 and their verdict is "Magic" and that's with a 40hp o/b. I have a Predator 160 with a 60hp Yam 2 stroke on the back. You almost stand it on its beam ends on a high speed turn, no slip at all.
Loads of freeboard and comfortable swivel seats. I think it is down to personal choice. Try and get a ride out on one. like Starboard 1 says, there are loads of second hand Warriors about but very very few Predators. Makes you wonder why? I got mine serviced at powerhouse Marine and they said they were surprised at the performance and ride. They did not think it would be as good as what it was. Needs a different prop from the standard one as the revs are at the bottom end of the range flat out. With a different prop I could get another 500rpm or so out of it. Then it should do around 35 - 37mph
instead of 30mph. In March at the go fishing show, delivery of the Warrior was September and the Predator was June so if you want your new boat this year, nows the time. your choice!.

hi there just looking at this thread and i am also looking for a new boat as i have a shetland shelti at the moment
what i have found out about a lot of second hand warriors is the owners seem to keep them for 3 to 6 years thrash the living daylights out of the engine then just sell it and get a new package as the second hand value is very good so it makes more sense to get rid before any troubles set in
also have a look at the seahog samuri as its supposed to be the same hull as the warrior 165 (mk 1) i am told

Im also in the market for a boat,but unfortunatly im dependant on the new marina at seaham being built before i get mine.
Ive looked at Predators and raiders,i agree with big_sean about warriors still very expensive for a 7 or 8 year boat,they seem to retain there value very well,and there isnt a lot of value someone buying 2nd hand i feel.
Personally i like the SeaHog commodore.

I am 100% Predator as I am the East Coast dealer for Douglas Marine. Another question for the mind,
How many Warriors have trim Tabs and dole fins attached to keep them up on the plane? Have a look at some adverts for them.

I am looking to change my boat at the end of the season and was thinking of a raider. I like the looks and the layout but havent been to sea in one.
I will note the number and take you up on the sea trial offer...a lot depends on my ongoing arguement with the tax man as to wether I can afford to change or will have to put up with my Delmar 16 for another year, which incidentally I have never seen another one for sale...using your logic does that mean it is the perfect boat?

1. do you fit engines and are you qualified
2. do you fit marine electronics and are you qualified
3. do predator boats need anti foul if going to be left on water
4 do you do anti fouling
5 what else do you do

Why beat around the bush when you want the truth.
Douglas Marine or Powerhouse Marine fit our engines or the customer may fit there own engine if desired, same as electronics.
I am trying to get the qualifications to install these things myself. I'm just selling the boats from home at present.
We advise to anti-foul the hull as we are advised by Douglas Marine. Some people do use anti-foul others say you don't need it we advise people to do it but we can't force them and I can get anti-foul for the boats.
Hope this answers your questions.

you got any pictures dave?? I've been advised by a couple of people that my 'other' boat is indeed a delmar, not seen one anywhere ever
did read somewhere the warrior hull was based on the delmar moulds

The 165 review is in July "Total Sea Fishing". Cant find it in August Sea Angler. Do you not mean August Boat Fishing Monthly? Sea Angler is always behind a bit. The Raider 18 is nice but too much windage at anchor so it tends to spin round a bit. Lot of money for a little bit more room and marginal performance over the Predator 165.
